Myrtle Beach - #4 Most Trashy Spring Break Location

Quote:

A rise in trashy stature from the No. 5 spot to fourth place this year had some Myrtle Beach, S. C., city officials tut-tutting about the dubious distinction.

"I am at a loss to explain why someone would put Myrtle Beach on that list," Myrtle Beach spokesman Mark Kruea told the Charlotte Observer. "That wouldn't be our perception."

The complete rankings:

1. Las Vegas

2. South Padre Island, Texas

3. Daytona Beach, Fla.

4. Myrtle Beach, S.C.

5. Orlando

6. Lake Havasu, Ariz.

7. Miami

8. Panama City Beach, Fla.

9. Key West

10. Fort Myers, Fla.

11. Tampa

12. Virginia Beach

13. Scottsdale, Ariz.

14. New Orleans

15. San Diego
I haven't been to Myrtle Beach since around 2001. Has it gone downhill?

I honestly don't know many native SCers who actually visit Myrtle Beach. Is it overrun by Canadians and Yankees?

Yes. Suprised it's not higher. They don't call it the dirty myrtle for nothing

Panama City Beach should be #1. Myrtle should be #3 behind PCB and Daytona. Cancun might not be considered since it isn't in the US but it should be up there too.

The Redneck Riveria...you are spot on.

Daytona is not what it used to be.

AS far at the Canadians coming to Myrtle, ever heard of Can-Am days? It is a big deal.

Very true. Imagine how much worse it could be if that interstate were actually built, and more people went there. Myrtle Beach has potential to be #1.

At least every spot on our coast isn't like Myrtle Beach.

The editors base their rankings on past spring break cred factors such as Girls Gone Wild shoots; prevalence of Hooters restaurants, tattoo parlors, liquor stores and strip clubs; and laws pertaining to open containers and drinking establishment closing times.
This is how they got it

I would bet none of the editors have ever been to over half of the cities on that list.

When HS and College kids go to Spring Break (who that whole term is targeted for) that's exactly what they're going for. They want to go party, get wasted, sleep with random people, and do things they'll regret later in life. That is EXACTLY what they go on these trips for.

For the people saying "oh it's so horrible it's so horrible". That to the aged people it's targeted for, is the most awesome place imaginable.

If you don't fall in the HS or College age group, don't go to those destinations during Spring Break ... same thing for "Senior Week".

It's a pretty simple solution if you ask me.

P.S. with that said, I can say it's changed and I don't think as fun as it was with I used to roam the streets for Spring Break and Senior Week. Stupid people have started causing problems for those that want to just go and have a good time. Due to those select few idiots of the world, security has been kicked up a notch and the limits they allow people to go have gotten shorter.

P.S.S. There's no chance I could ever do half of what I used to, so I'm really not upset about the more security. I'm one of those guys now complaining about the little youngens needing to turn the music down haha.

With that list, you don't have to attend the place

I haven't been in years.

It was tawdry, dangerous, and cheap when I was younger.

...and I loved it.

I am surprised to see Scottsdale on that list. I was there at New Year's and it's a great place to hang out - especially if you are younger.

Depends on which area you go to. Ocean boulevard during spring break and pretty much all summer can get a little grimy.

Murrells Inlet, Market Commons, North Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest are all nice places.

You can catch ol' Skeet Skeet at Dead Dog Saloon on the marsh walk in Murrells Inlet on the weekends. Best shrimp plate in town.

You gotta stay away from the "touristy" places like Skeet Said.

I've traveled to Arizona and stayed in the Scottsdale area three times the past 6-8 months... I can see how things can get wild and out of control there. The weather is hot, the drinks are pouring, and the girls are even hotter than the weather... good mix for shenanigans if you ask me.

My uncle and grandparents both own places in Cherry Grove...that area is actually very nice, I can go down there and hang out at the house and go to the beach and not get into all the touristy stuff. If you stay in N. Myrtle Beach it is a really nice place to be, and not really trashy.....Now once you go South that is another story, S. Myrtle is the Southern version of the Jersey Shore, and turns out it is mostly ppl from Jersey that go there....go figure

So much money there its ridiculous and don't know why it would be compared to the other cities on the list. Unless fake boobs score lots of trashy points, because there are everywhere in Scottsdale.
