Martin Offers Dominique Hawkins

Calipari is showing a lot of interest. If KY offers, he'll be a wildcat. If not, he could choose USC.

Hawkins scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The senior guard had 23 points in the second half and 15 points in the fourth quarter. He was 17-for-20 from the free-throw line and hit several big shots down the stretch.

In three games in Rupp Arena, Hawkins is averaging 28.7 points and 8.3 rebounds.

“I feel like I’m dreaming right now,” he said.

The clutch performances on the state’s biggest stage have translated into more exposure for the lightly recruited 6-foot-1 guard, who said he had 22 messages on his phone when he returned to the locker room after his 31-point performance Friday.

In addition to the increased interest from Kentucky, Hawkins picked up a scholarship offer from South Carolina following Friday’s game. Gamecocks Coach Frank Martin is expected to be in Rupp Arena on Sunday for Hawkins’ final high school game.

Well we need to get someone on board. This guy certainly showed out this weekend. Hope we can get him. Man we need guards... And wingmen and big men for that matter.

No better recruiting tool that winning. Maybe we can win a few in the SECT and turn some heads...

That would be a welcomed change, now wouldn't it? It is possible for us if we get through MSU on Wednesday... let's hope the boys come to play some ball.

Hawkins wants to go to kentucky. If he gets an offer, that is where he will go. I sort of don't like recruiting guys whose "dream school" is one of our conference rivals. I also think Hawkins is a little small, unless we are looking for a small guard, which I thought Frank did not want.

6' 1" is an upgrade from what we have now though. Ideally a guard who has more length would be good, but if this guy can play then that is alright with me (if we could land him).

What happened with Malik Price-Martin? We have a chance with him?

Edit: Forgot he was a 2014 guy

Uh okay?.. Telling about our teams lack of talent and glaring weakness make me a student manager? You must be one of those non competitive types.

What HS BB player doesn't want to go to KY? Especially ones that grow up in KY... If Calipari doesn't have room for him, we need to snatch him up before someone else does.

Well, maybe. But I'm not sold. It won't disappoint me if we don't get him. If we do get him, I hope he is worth a scholarship.

And, I think UK is still recruiting one or two other top 10 types for the spring. And they already signed the number one PG prospect in the class of 2013. And, Ryan Harrow is a sophomore. UK has not offered Hawkins, last I heard. I would be surprised if they do. They'd probably like to have him as a walk-on.

Best of luck Coach Martin, hopefully you'll be able to grab that "once in a lifetime recruit" to change the face of this program and turn it around like Spurrier did in football aka Lattimore.

Need more ball handling and rebounding to go with the scorers we're gonna have soon.

I think he was joking that at least we have good student managers, even if we are struggling on the court. It wasn't at you, but joke about the team needs.

That's the way I took it too.

USC offers Kentucky guard
By Phil Kornblut
6-1 Dominique Hawkins of Richmond, KY led his team to its first state championship over the weekend and in doing so he attracted the attention of several college coaches including USC's Frank Martin. Martin offered Hawkins on Friday. He also has offers from Tennessee Tech, Morehead State and Western Kentucky. Kentucky coach John Calipari scouted Hawkins during the tournament games at Rupp Arena and one of his assistants watched all four of his games in the Sweet 16 segment of the tournament. Alabama, Purdue and Tennessee are also showing interest. Hawkins was named the MVP of the state tournament and averaged over 26 points per game in the Sweet 16.
