It was a salary cap move by the Ravens, but why let him go to a rival? I don't get it.

Didn't he say he'd retire if the Ravens released him? This trade may be enough to send him to retirement.

Boldin was a major reason the ravens won in the playoffs and eventually the super bowl.

Eh, maybe. They've got an aging running back, a timebomb at head coach, and a great big question mark at QB. Kaepernick played pretty well last season, but as with many of the more mobile quarterbacks, he's going to have to prove he can read a defense and pick apart defenses in order to maintain his status as the "next one."

The 49ers are in the NFC, and the Ravens are in the AFC.

Just because they met in the Super Bowl does not make them rivals.

Honestly- I've never heard of two NFL teams referred to as 'rivals' that weren't in the same division. Maybe I'm missing some old, storied rivalry from before the divisions were shifted around, but I can't think of any.

When I think of rivals in the NFL, I think of divisional opponents that have to play each other twice a year, every year, and could impede each other from making the playoffs / super bowl.

IIMO, when you play in the SB against each other, you become rivals. And the Ravens/49ers more so because of the coaching connection.

But like someone else said, maybe bro is helping bro in some crazy way.

So, they make a QB who isn't even Top 5 the highest paid player in the league and then trade Anquan Boldin for a 6th round pick...

WTF

That doesnt make the Ravens rivals with the 49ers...I think the Brother v. Brother thing could be a rivalry yes, but as far as the franchises go, I dont see it.

I think this is a good move. On one hand it sucks bc he helped us win the Super Bowl, but I think itll be for the better. Frees up a good bit of cap space and that will help us get some depth that we desperately need.

Look at Flacco's record. He is one of the best in the NFL.

I'm wondering if they're doing this as a gamble thinking Latti or DJ will still be available in the 6th round.

thats what im wondering too....but he will prb play again...kinda hard to pass up being traded to the team that you just beat in the SB but they are clearly on the rise and the ravens gonna lose alot of ppl

That's a quality get for the 49ers, he still has some years left.
