Pankake to pitch?

With the injury to Montgomery, what about having Joey go a few innings if we need him?

Watched him pitch in high school, and he throws a very heavy fastball and had a decent breaking ball.

I know it was tossed around in the preseason, and I feel comfortable with Schrock and Arendas in the field if Pankake has to go to the mound.

NO.

The last thing we need is for him to go out there and hurt his arm trying to pitch. Then we're down a pitcher and a SS. We have plenty of capable pitchers, and he we need his bat in the lineup every day.

He actually pitched some innings this fall and the coaches were pretty serious about using him some this year.

There is no need though. Our pitching has been great so far, why risk your shortstop's arm?

I'm not saying throw him 8 innings as a starter....but maybe for one of our midweek games let him pitch an inning or two so we don't completely use up arms for the weekend.

Could hurt his arm pitching? Sure.
Could he also hurt is arm playing shortstop? Yes.

We have more than enough quality pitching to where we dont need to even risk it, end of story

These arguments always annoyed me.

Could you get hurt getting stabbed by a poisonous scorpion? Yes.
Could you also get hurt driving to work? Yes.

Might as well go get stabbed by a scorpion because you could always get hurt or killed anyway.

:)

i thought this was a serious question. i hate thread topic like this. It makes it sound as if he heard that pankake was pitching but wanted to confirm.

Would be kind of cool. They say he touches 95.

Wouldn't mind it. Webb was throwing belt high 89 MPH fastballs on Sunday. No way we should have won...bring the heat

This reminds me of Jose Canseco trying to pitch in the early 90s. He hurt his arm and missed the rest of that year because of it.

We do need a fireballer for a closer.

Except Pankake was actually a pretty good pitcher in high school. He threw in the pen this off season. So did Grayson Greiner. I was pretty sure we'd see one of the two ina mid weeker to see how they perform.

If he's capable and able then I say go for it , that would be awesome if he could add a couple of quality innings here and there ...

Speed kills, but it also goes the other way (quite quickly).
