frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
on the subject of the CLA not being allowed to host post season tournaments.
Frank just said that he has many other issues to think about before that even comes into play and that if and when it comes time for that discussion then he may address the subject. Seems to me the reporter was just looking for a misstep by frank in how he answered that question. I personally hate questions that try and bait a coach. |
Re: frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
Sounds like Coach Martin handled that bait very well.

Re: frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
Why is CLA not allowed to host a post season event? NAACP protest or something?
|
Re: frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
Because of the confederate flag hanging on the state house lawn, this is why the Globetrotters do not come to South Carolina as well.
|
Re: frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
Well, that is just stupid, but I guess it isn't just CLA that won't host post season events - it's the entire state right?
|
Re: frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
I am pretty sure that is why we do not have a bowl game as well, but I could be wrong about that.

I think it is pretty much a fact that the Colonial Life Arena hasn't hosted a first/second round of the NCAA basketball tournament because of the Confederate Flag. |
Re: frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
Yeah, and the only reason we can host post-season play as far as baseball goes is because that is merit-based rather than a predetermined tournament site
|
Re: frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
This is really a non-issue and a lame bait and hook question. Even if the CLA were allowed to host NCAA tournament games, we wouldn't be allowed to play there anyways. NCAA doesn't allow men's teams to play tournament games on their own home court.

Re: frank martin was asked to share his thoughts
Just to be clear, the NAACP boycotted the state because the Flag was ON TOP OF THE CAPITOL BUILDING. An agreement was reached by the parties that if the flag was removed from atop the Capitol building and moved to the capitol grounds, the boycott would be lifted. Well the flag was moved, but the boycott WAS NOT REMOVED. Now the NAACP demands that it be removed from the state grounds altogether!
Frankly, I don't give a **** about the flag...... I wish they would move it....... but it bothers me that there was an agreement...... and it was broken. You can't keep negotiating with people who keep moving the goalpost during negotiations........ I truly believe in racial equality....... but can you imagine what would happen if we had a "white history month" or "Mrs. White America" or "White Entertainment TV"? We should do away with ALL racism...... PERIOD! As for Coach Martin, I would imagine he believes EXACTLY as I do! We should do away with ALL racism...... PERIOD! It should not be an issue at all! |

It and our past in the civil war and all wars deserves it's own museum anyway.

We had decades of White everything. Why do you think racial relations exploded in the 60's & 70's? After having white only bathrooms and water fountains, what else white only could you possibly want? |

BTW, you might want to give some thought to the possibility that 'white history month' is what they teach our kids those other eight months school is in session and that 'White Entertainment TV'/'White Miss&Mrs.America's' were all we had for decades. For the first time in USC history I truly believe we now have a group of Coaches and Administrators who can help our university and state become all it can be in so many ways, not just athletics. Winning is fine and dandy, but that's the real reason it's a great day to be a Gamecock. |

Oh and we couldn't fit all the great things white people have done into one month anyways. So I say the rest of the ten months are white history months. Since Mexicans have their own too, that makes 12 |
