He should thank Clowney for all the publicity he has received since, "the hit". I'd never heard of him til that play.

The RB that Clowney smacked was not the dufus on that play. The guy who missed his blocking assignment was! LOL! Watch the TE who knew he had made a colossal goof when there was a team mate already blocking the defensive player he went after. I wonder if the TE was sleeping or confused by crowd noise. The TE should have seen a blitz coming too and known the Michigan QB would switch blocking schemes at the line.
That was a really good team we played. Without that goof we would have lost.

What I love about "The Hit" is the little smirk Brady Hoke had on his face talking to an assistant I believe when he knew Michigan had just gotten a gift with that awful spot then the look on his face after Clowney wiped the smirk off his face.

These two players will forever be tied to one another. They may do a 30 for 30 on the hit 20 years from now. :)

but the TE for Michigan who missed his block on Clowney will remain left out of this famous play and I bet he's darn glad that is so. There is something unamerican about missing a block entirely enabling your man blowup the backfield on national tv on new years day. Can you imagine that if this had occured in 1967 in a playoff game and your coach was Vince Lombardi? The death penalty would be a more desirable result. Old Vince would still be screaming at the TE.

The tackle audibled to the TE, the TE says he could not hear him.

Maybe when they do a 30 for 30 on The Hit, the TE will get mentioned for his blunder.

He should embrace it. Get a whole bunch of photos of the hit printed up and sign them. He'd make a killing.

I've watched the play several times over the past few months and I'm
convinced both those guys on that side (Tackle and TE) were 100% sold
that Clowney was going to try to swim move or blow by them on the outside.
At the snap of the ball both those guys "flinched" or moved slightly to the
outside and before they realized it had happened, Clowney had made a
bee line inside the tackle and IT WAS OVER for Smith. They whiffed on
the block yes, but I think Clowney was hell bent on shoving someone
into the backfield on the inside after that ridiculous first down call, and
he was going destroy whoever was in front of him... he was probably just
as shocked as the Tackle and TE that he was uncontested. Either way,
the missile found the target and blew it to hell and gone
