Nick Saban Sure Is a Stupid Recruiter!
 

I am now convinced that Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier are stupid.

Looking through Rivals database, Bama has offered 30 prospects for 2014 who are not even rated! Gosh, doesn't Saban know that you can't win in football unless you only recruit 4 and 5 star players? Even someone as football illiterate I have learned this lesson from all the recruiting boards I've read. After all, who is a Saban to think he knows more than the "experts" who make their living on evaluating the potential of high school football players?

Of course, I have learned on recruiting message boards that Spurrier is also stupid because he doesn't spend all his time chasing five stars.

This thread is kind of a fail because Rivals hasn't released their position rankings yet. Just the Rivals 250. Once the position rankings come out, more four stars will show up.

I hope you are being sarcastic. If not, I don't think Saban and Spurrier are the ones that are confused here.

If you have been following Carolina football recently, you would know that a program doesn't have to recruit all top of the mountain talent every single year to be successful. You can bring in as much top rated talent as you want to, but you still have to coach them up to the college game level.

the op was certainly being sarcastic. ie coaches look at film and evaluate in person to decide who to offer, not based on the opinion of a recruiting service. or in this case wait for rivals/scout/247 to update their rankings for a particular class.

Bama doesn't offer unrated players. Those players will be 4 or 5 stars when all of the ratings come out.

8 out of Bama's 25 signees was a 3 star. That's almost one third of their class.

4 of those 8 were 5.7 which is pretty much a 4 star. The line between 5.8 and 5.7 is thin. What separates them can be anything from a highlight tape, to the position they are expected to play at the next level, etc. Very nitpicky things.

The 4 below 5.7 are a developmental prospects (including a long snapper) and 3 of those 4 had offers from Big 6 teams. The prospect with the 'worst' offer list wasn't the long snapper either.

Really at this point shouldn't virtually every bama recruit be considered a 4*? They pretty much get their pick of players over a huge area, so almost all the 3* they've offered they chose over multiple 4*. Isn't getting a bama offer a lot greater of an accomplishment than getting a 4* rating from Rivals?
