UFC 158: St. Pierre vs Diaz

1 Attachment(s)
March 16, 2013 will see a welterweight event over 3 years in the making! Champion Georges St. Pierre will defend his title against Nick Diaz. This was supposed to take place in 2011 but due to several no-shows by Diaz at mandatory promotional press conferences he was replaced on the card by UFC president Dana White, aka "The Baldfather". DW was none too pleased with the antics of Diaz, but since then he has relented and given him a second chance at the title.

St. Pierre has promised a beatdown of epic proportions as he views Diaz's antics as boorish and has called Nick "the most disrespectful person" he has ever met. Look for fireworks in this one gang!!

The rest of the card is as follows:

Main Card (PPV at 10 p.m. ET)
Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz
Carlos Condit vs. Johny Hendricks
Jake Ellenberger vs. Nate Marquardt
Chris Camozzi vs. Nick Ring
Mike Ricci vs. Colin Fletcher
Preliminary Card (FX at 8 p.m. ET)
Patrick Cote vs. Bobby Voelker
Darren Elkins vs. Antonio Carvalho
Dan Miller vs. Jordan Mein
Daron Cruickshank vs. John Makdessi
Preliminary Card (Facebook at 6:30 p.m. ET)
Rick Story vs. Quinn Mulhern
T.J. Dillashaw vs. Issei Tamura
George Roop vs. Reuben Duran

GSP might kill him. That's what I'm hoping for at least!

GSP all the way.

GSP will lay on top of Diaz for 25 minutes. GSP hasn't finished a fight since January of 2009.

GSP proves a point. Diaz gets ragdolled.

While GSP does have superior wrestling and takedowns, he is not one to 'lay and pray' (think Clay Guida), and he also knows Diaz has better jui jitsu so he does not want to fight that fight. Nick has very good stand up, wih one of the best gas tanks in pro sports (he runs triathlon races for goodness sake!), he lacks the power of GSP. This fight will take place mostly on the feet where St. Pierre's skills will outshine Diaz.

You are right in that there will not be a finish but a decision.

One of 2 things I want to happen:

1. For GSP to lose and stop playing it safe from now on out.

2. Diaz to bitch slap GSP and for GSP to stop playing it safe from now on out.

Yea, I think GSP is on a mission

I don't think GSP finishes the fight. I think he gets popped one time and goes into the same mode he has been in since Serra rocked him and took his belt.

Sounds like a good one, I'll be stealing the feed.

GSP is my favorite fighter, but I am getting a little frustrated with watching him...he isn't as aggressive as I would like him to be and I know he has more standup game in him. I mean, he doesn't get in there and pull a Machida or anything...but all the grappling and ground game can get boring. People want to see heads rocked.

Do you really think GSP will be that much better on the feet? Maybe he will, but from what I understand Diaz has trained with championship level boxers for the past several years. GSP will jab like crazy, but Diaz will keep coming at him like nobody who as ever fought him before. I know people hate Diaz because he acts like a moron, but he is the definition of a "fighter" inside that cage. He will probably leg kick the hell out of Diaz considering Diaz never tries to check anybody who does that to him.

You are right on ALL counts!! I think Nick is as dangerous as any 3 fighters in the cage.

Diaz is an ELITE boxer! Absolutely some of the best hands in the biz. He simply does not have the power to finish GSP in those hands. I think Georges takes this fight where he wants.

In nearly all of his title defenses he has been the babyface and talked about his respect for his opponent. This fight is different as he has no respect for Diaz as a person. I think we see the darkest, meanest GSP ever!

I am sure GSP is going to win because he is the best fighter at 170 in the world. He is a nice guy and a great fighter but I just haven't cared for his style in the past. I guess I am in the minority, but I feel like MMA needs more Nick Diaz type fighters. Every time he comes into the cage you are going to get a "fight" and that is the way he sees it. He is not going in there to show "respect" , instead he is going in there to bust somebody's ass. He is absolutely crazy and I hope he doesn't get cut after this fight.

Why the hate on GSP's style? It may not be the fight you wanna see, but... it works and he wins. Chris Byrd (boxer) caught a lot of shit in his career because he didn't waste energy by taking chances on punches and fought defensively, but his land/miss percentage was amazing. He won a lot.

Check out the beating he gives Frank Shamrock at the 4:00 minute mark! Epic...

That is what I am talking about! The Gomi fight was one of the most exciting fights I have ever seen in my life as was the Paul Daley first round.

He just plays it safe. It has made him a lot of money and won him a lot of fights, but I would rather watch the Diaz brothers, Carlos Condit, Donald Cerrone, or Anderson Silva when he isn't clowning his opponent. I like the way they come to finish their opponents. GSP is just way too gifted to have five straight decision victories. He didn't even finish Dan Hardy.
