Both were great, but the significance and emotion that went into that Clowney hit had way more impact...ask Vincent Smith lol

No.

Re: Ingram fake punt > Clowney hit.
Play wise I think Ingram's was better, but emotionally you don't get better impact than Clowney's hit...period!

Re: Ingram fake punt > Clowney hit.
To be honest... You could argue that the bigger play in that UGA game was the fumble recovery by Ingram (The scoop and score) that was caused by Clowney throwing Aaron Murray like a ragdoll.. We were up by 3 points with 3 minutes left in the game. The way that game was going it was quite possible that UGA could go down the field and score the go ahead TD, or atleast settle for a FG and tie it. UGA even ended up scoring the drive after that play happened I believe. So it was huge that we got that.
(Sorry for the awful music) The only time i've ever jumped out of my seat like that was the Clowney hit on poor Vincent Smith.. Clowney was a freshman there. Time flies but man oh man, has he performed during his time here or what? It's a great time to be a gamecock that's for sure. |

I definitely think this comparison is at least arguable.. Don't go calling him a tater when he is trying to compare two legendary plays that were the most rewatched highlights over the past two football seasons.
I mean Melvin Ingram got a sports science out of it.. Clowney very well could as well. |
Re: Ingram fake punt > Clowney hit.
I've seen fake punts before, I've never seen what Clowney did before.

Personally, I like the Ingram fake punt more. Maybe the Clowney thing is just a little overplayed at this point and I'm undervaluing as a result, but I also think the Ingram play features both a great play and a great athlete. And, during a critical moment in the game. Nothing against the Clowney hit. It was awesome. But, for my tastes, I'm more impressed with the Ingram run. Plus, the punctuation of Hairy Dawg holding his head in shock (and awe) is too perfect.

Re: Ingram fake punt > Clowney hit.
If you watch the play where Clowney tossed Erin's ass and Melvin recovered the fumble for a TD vs Jawja and the Clowney hit from the Michigan game it is eerily similar how JD comes off the ball and goes unblocked... you would think the O line would block him. I'm not complaining though!!

Re: Ingram fake punt > Clowney hit.
Is there anything greater than the "hit"?
The Jadeveon/MI6 TD combo later in that game was a bigger play than the fake punt. |
Re: Ingram fake punt > Clowney hit.
Agreed. Great play in Athens >>>>> great play in a (let's face it) essentially meaningless bowl game. Also, the dawg putting his hands up like "oh my!" puts it way over the top for me.

Sorry, I don't buy it. Every team has to get some breaks to get to where they are. Alabama didn't play perfectly last season, but they caught some breaks with other teams losing at the right time, got into the championship game and cleaned house. How is a win against GA in the regular season when they didn't even win the SEC considered more important than a bowl game against Michigan on New Years Day? |
Re: Ingram fake punt > Clowney hit.
Ingram's play was huge and turned the game around for the Gamecocks. I believe we ended up winning the east that year.
Melvin's speed flabergasted the commentators. It took them five minutes to figure out it was our DE Ingram who outran the UGA safeties. Beating MIchigan was fine, but not as meaningful as beating an SEC power on the road. I vote for Melvin. I think Clowney needs to pick up his scoop and scores next year. I don't think he is even in the ballpark in the number of TDs that were scored by Melvin. |
