Hollywood continues to show they have run out of ideas.

I agree. But this has potential to be a good movie.

Of course, we've all been let down more than pleased.

Thats all Disney right there. They are in the process of making "old things new" again.

Its not just Disney its every major film company its either sequels, prequels, or rehashing old tv shows into movies.

I might turn out to be wrong but Johnny Depp as Tonto could well be the worst casting in the last 50 years.

I would bet that it is not only unoriginality but also some research out there that says people will spend money on seeing things they are familiar with or nostalgic for...and it may even be easier for studios to market films that they do not have to fully explain in their trailers or on their posters.

The basic reasoning there is that there is already a fan base for the original that may be at least curious about the remake-which will drive the opening weekend numbers and help spread the film by word of mouth.

on the other hand, I could be giving the studios too much credit.

I saw Depp on Letterman last week and he said Tonto is not the Tonto of old and not just some aimless sidekick, whatever that means.

Lame remake. Johnny Depp should have just made a new Pirates movie and be done with Disney movies.

Depp is one of the most overrated actors of our time.

Or the best. Just sayin'...

It's true that writers of movies are struggling to be original, but this story is one that could benefit from fresh interpretation. A classic story to be retold every generation, kind of like Tarzan.

A classic character for sure.

If they want to bring the Lone Ranger into the 21th century, they need to make Tonto gay.....kemosabe.
