Re: Dylan Thompson 2012-13 Highlights
Well, I'll go ahead and say it and get blasted.
Comparing the two videos and what we have seen from both QBs so far .. there are throws Dylan made that Connor can't. -exits thread slowly and quietly- |

Re: Dylan Thompson 2012-13 Highlights
I mean its not a bad thing at all. Connor can obviously do things that Dylan can't but from a pure passing aspect, Dylan's arm strength and vision (probably a result of the height difference between the two) stands out. The in route to Nick Jones against Clemson is the best example.
Dylan isn't perfect. He'll put the ball in danger more than Connor will and he only completed 52% of his passes last season. It is a high risk/high reward but those passes he completes sure do look purdy. I tell you one thing, if the work they are putting in with Dylan to improve throwing to his left pays off .. that guy is going to light up some secondaries this season. For those wondering what I am talking about, when throwing to the left hash/boundary, Dylan sometimes has a fundamental breakdown and throws across his body. They are working extremely hard on fixing that from what I have read. If thats the only part of his game that needs fine tuning, then he is going to be damn good. |

Connor is great, but he is a running quarterback. He doesn't like to release the ball unless there is a player open. Dylan will follow the play and release the ball, trusting the receiver will make it to to the spot. IMO, Dylan is the type of QB that Coach has traditionally favored when he runs a passing offense like the Fun 'N' Gun. |

Re: Dylan Thompson 2012-13 Highlights
The thing that makes people nervous about Dylan is that he has had a lot I dropped interceptions and has a lower completion percentage.
My argument to this has been that, the more he plays, the less that will happen. He will get into a rythym faster, know when to and when not to throw the ball, and eventually become more accurate. I think getting into a flow if the game faster will help his completion percentage also. He tends to "dirt" a few balls when the games first start though he was getting better at that as the year went along. In the long run, I think the basic question is: How good is your good? Basically I think Dylan has a higher ceiling than Connor. And we have the coaches to coach him to it. I think the most important thing now is in the repetition. |

Re: Dylan Thompson 2012-13 Highlights
This will be the book on us, the sound bite from every TV analyst as they intro our games: Dylan's got the arm and Connor's got the wheels. DC's in the SEC may not be quite that simple-minded about it, but we all know SOS will exploit that preconception with great skill. It sure worked against Clempson.

Let them build up Manziel, McCarron, and Murray - then let them be surprised by what SC has. I'd rather get less attention during the off season and more when we're playing. I'd rather be underestimated than overestimated. Actually, though, I've seen at least 5 articles in the last week on Thompson. He seems to be attracting more attention, probably because Shaw hasn't been able to practice. |

I like watching him get all pumped up, too. You can tell the other players (and coaches) feed off his excitement. He's like a kid out there, pumping his fists, bobbing his head, and doing the airplane. He seems to love what he's doing. This is Justin King's video combining ECU, UAB, and Mizzou. Love it. |
