Bradley still making his case for roster spot
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Manager John Farrell had a little smile Sunday morning when he was asked if outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr.'s left-handed bat might make sense if the Red Sox head north without Stephen Drew and David Ortiz.
"That's a hell of a question," Farrell said. "We've got two weeks to determine that." Bradley, who is ranked Boston's No. 2 prospect by MLB.com, went 0-for-1 on Sunday in a 5-1 Red Sox win over the Rays at JetBlue Park, dropping his Grapefruit League average to .444 (16-for-36). http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/ar...s_bos&c_id=bos |
Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
I figured that he would start the season in AAA.
It'd be awesome if he made the Opening Day roster though. |
Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
As bad as the Red Sox are...why not put him on the big league club?

Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
Why wouldn't you cut a high paid OF and put a young star there? If your so-called organization is rebuilding!
|
Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
If you're rebuilding, why would you want to waste a year on a young star? Instead, hoard him in the minors for a couple weeks and get an extra year of MLB service time out of him.

Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
Cutting a player in baseball doesn't relieve you of their contract. Baseball is all guaranteed money which is why the Mets two highest paid outfielders this year are Jason Bay and Bobby Bonilla (ouch). If JBJ doesn't make the opening day roster he will make the team in short order he is a stud.

Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
i think you guys are completely underestimating the red sox this year...especially with the yankees having so many injuries.

Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
Isn't there some rule about if they don't bring him up before May then they get to keep him another year?
|
Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
This complicates things, I can pull for Jackie, but not the Red Sox.

Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
The Red Sox are not bad team had a lot injuries and the busted hiring of Bobby V. It comes down to money, but keeping JBJ on the minor league roster till May it prevents them from fighting arbriation a year later

Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
he needs minors work. the last thing he needs is a great spring and a dud april. they will talk and he will be screwed. he is young and needs more at bats in the minors.

Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
He hasn't played above AAA as well, let him do a month or two in Pawtucket before we talk about Boston

The Red Sox problem is their pitching, plain and simple

Re: Bradley still making his case for roster spot
No need to rush him.
