New Cigar Obsession - Suggestions?

So I now have a new obsession with cigars. I've never been a smoker but I've found I really enjoy cigars. My wife bought me a humidor and a nice butane lighter and the collection is strongly growing.
Not being a cigarette smoker I think lends to my liking of flavored cigars.
Some of my favorites are CAO flavours (moontrance, caramel joe, cherry bomb), Tatiana (groovy blue, honey, rum), Drew Estate Java, Drew Estate naturals (jucy lucy and dirt), Drew Estate Acid (Blondie, Cold Tea Infusion, C-notes)

I just wanted to see if there were any more cigar smokers here and if there were any suggestions of things I should try.

I'm planning on trying a Maker's Mark this weekend at the Steeplechase horse races in Aiken. I've heard some good things about them.

The increased risk for those smoking 1–2 cigars per day is too small to be statistically significant,[187] and the health risks of the 3/4 of cigar smokers who smoke less than daily are not known[188] and are hard to measure; although it has been claimed that people who smoke few cigars have no increased risk, a more accurate statement is that their risks are proportionate to their exposure
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_...tobacco#Cigars

1 or 2 cigars a week doesn't increase risk by an statistically significant amount.
But - that's not why I started the thread.

^ I don't know if I buy that. On average, one cigar contains as much nicotine as an entire pack of cigarettes. And it's not even about smoking them. I know a guy that got mouth cancer just from chewing on them.

But that being said, I will smoke one MAYBE twice a year. I'm like you though. I lean towards the flavored ones.

I used to buy cigars from cigarbid.com. You can get a GREAT deal buying bundles through them. Especially if you want to look for a few things in particular, or get some bundles with a large variety to try a bunch of different kinds.

They are huge down here and I have also slowly started to "get into them", although I do admit it feels strange saying it that way. Kind of like "I just started to get into playing chicken with my vehicle."

Not sure if these are any good, but pretty cool. They general Gamecock cigar wraps, and also remembering our 2012 11 win season.

Shoot Cockyhoskins a PM and he'll tell you anything and everything you
wanted to know about the subject.

Not sure how many people know it, but Cockytalk actually started out as
a forum for Cigar Smokers. Chuck and Ken put it together and had a few
people online discussing Expensive Cigars and Sports. It eventually morphed
into a small forum for discussing Gamecock sports ... .And the rest they
say is History.

Been smokin cigars for a long time now.

1. Buy online. Cigar shops have insane markups. I usually shop at www.cigarsinternational.com/ or www.thompsoncigar.com - I've found good deals on both of these sites.
2. CAO is my favorite go-to brand. Spefically like the CAO MX2 - but they're hard to find sometimes.
3. Al Capone makes a good flavored cigar (cigarillo really) - these are good quick smokes and are typically cheaper than Makers Mark.
4. Take good care of your humidor. Don't let it just sit somewhere.

Re: New Cigar Obsession - Suggestions?

I'm like TH, I'll have one on very special occasions, and 99% of the time it's flavored. One is New Years Eve, then depending on how I feel, one for my birthday in April, and we designate our Friday night while we're at Mustang Week our "Cigar Night". We'll go to Nick's Cigar World down in North Myrtle and pick up 2-3 different ones. One is out on the balcony as a group while we talk about what we're doing that night or whatever. One is strictly a smaller, flavored one for riding down Ocean Blvd with. If you get an extra one, well that's on your own time.

the tinder box used to have "house branded" cigars that were amaratto or vanalla or almond flavored, those were good

So my buddy down here is pretty well versed on cigars and he is the one peer pressuring me into getting my own humidor, etc. He only smokes maduros...doesn't enjoy natural wrapped at all from what I can see.

I'm a cigar afficianado but I'm not on the level of some of these guys. I can't hack the maduros generally. I hold flavored cigars in contempt, but you will graduate from them eventually (as I will probably graduate from the naturals to the maduros). I've got a line on some real cohibas. Magnificent! Keep your humidor in good sorts or buy those disposable humidor bags to start with. They last about 6 months. I like JR cigar and cigars intl but I'm probably going to focus on the cohibas once I smoke down the stuff in my humi. Lessee. Never pay full price for Ghurka's they over-inflate the price and then slash them. I don't really like them personally. I enjoyed a hoyo de monterrey excalibur the other day. The perdomo champagne 10th anniversary is really good and was top ranked by robb report. I'm pretty sure perdomo actually makes the cigars the CAO brand sells, or at least they were the ones who made them while they were getting popular. The perdomo champagne is maybe my favorite non-cuban. Macanudo hyde parks are always ok. Montecristos and cobia from the dominican are good but pricey.
