Delany: Big Ten could de-emphasize athletics if O'Bannon plaintiffs win

Ohio State versus Mount Union in a regular-season football game? Wisconsin against Wisconsin-Whitewater in a regular-season basketball game?

Will never, ever, ever happen. The Big Ten is too caught up in the money, and will never turn their backs on it. If so, it tremendously changes far more than just sports at those institutions: it changes the salary structure of not just coaches and athletic staff members, but also administration at the highest levels. That means the school presidents, the very same people Delany seemingly has confidence in. And they are among the most hypocritical of players in this entire vicious cycle downward....

Words can not describe how incredibly stupid and selfish that would be.

O, RLY DELANY?

Kind of like how the B1G would never approve a playoff?

He's bluffing...the B1G schools would be so screwed if they did that, opening themselves up to millions in lawsuits for pending construction contracts for facility upgrades that would have to be back out of.

And then there's the coaches salaries...I don't believe you can just reduce a salary of a coach that is under contract, since the coach is technically a public sector employee. So would the likes of Urban Meyer and other high paid coaches be fired? Because the schools most certainly wouldn't be able to pay their salaries.

The former NCAA commish stated that he wanted to return both football and basketball to club level sports. The small and poor schools like this. I think that would be the nail in their coffin though. Most large schools would form their own governing body.
