NFL Owners Just Passed the "RB Ducking Rule"

Only the Chiefs voted against it. From now on, RB will no longer be able to duck their heads into oncoming defenders to protect themselves. Football will never be the same again. I just can't believe they did this. It's absolutely bullshit. Thank you Roger.....you prick. The owners are going to pay a price for this.

I understand trying to protect the players. But this rule is not good for football. NFL... National Flag League

From what I understand, the rule only applies to when the player is in open field, so if a RB is running into the LOS, then this rule wouldn't apply.

Still a dumb rule, just wanted to make sure it was stated correctly here.

Just heard it's OK for RB to lower their heads inside the tackles, but not outside. I really believe this is being done to help the owners protect themselves from player lawsuits.....with all the concussions issues coming up now.

of course that is why they are doing it as well as trying to eliminate injuries to their most prized possessions. Can you blame them? Of course it pussifies the game...however, with billions in potential liability I definitely can see this happening. Hell, next thing you know, it will be flag football.

This will be nearly impossible to enforce. All refs are going to have different interpretations of when to throw the flag. Terrible idea. I don't recall any injuries from RB's lowering their heads in the open field so why change it?

At least they can still cover up inside the tackles. That would have completely destroyed the NFL.

Its not about injuries recognized during the game, its the repeated blows to the head that manifest later in life in the form of degenerative brain disease.

The beginning of the end of the NFL. What will be the trickle down effect?

Wow, BS. Football will be unwatchable in a decade at this pace, maybe even sooner.

As a football player you were always taught to play with your head up,not looking at the ground. This was more for spinal injury related issues than concussions. In theory this rule sounds great, but runners are taught to run behind your pads.Running in a more straight up fashion is less productive and will lead to more injuries on the ribs, shoulders, hips, etc. As is running backs have a very short shelf life, but most leave the game due to leg injuries.Other than Merrill Hoge I can't think of any running backs that are suffering from brain related problems.
