NFL Safety

If the NFL is serious about player safety, why not try expanding the rosters and adding width to the field. If they expand the rosters, this would allow players to not get as fatigued, which heightens chance to get injured.

Also if they moved the with of the field to say, the soccer with, this would create space and lessen the WRs getting crushed and more running lanes. This change could open the game up without taking away from the actual core of the game. NFL and even in College, the athletes are so fast that they can cover too much ground to continue to play on the current with.

What do some of you think?

I agree with the expanding the rosters especially for special teams play. What's a game day roster 46? make it 65

Making the field wider would cost teams a lot of money. I don't know how many stadiums are even set up to accomodate such a change without having to do either major renovations or building a new stadium entirely. How many players do you want them to add to the roster? If they add 20 more that's 20 more people that have to receive the minimum player pay, which would cost every team millions as well.

Not true. They play soccer games on all the stadium fields. They could easily go to that with without an issue. I don't believe it needs to be longer just wider.

I'd say at least 10 on practice roster. The league pays half of the 9 billion it makes back to the organizations to help with salaries, so don't think 10 guys will break the bank. There is no excuse to have teams with only 7 OL on entire roster. Even if they just allowed all 53 players to be active on gameday would be better.

Removing the facemask changes things on both sides of the ball. Nobody wants to lead with the face.

Why not get rid of all the equipment while you are at it?

they were talking about widening the field last year and I want to say that they said only two of the fields would need significant construction. Not a 100% but I know it was a very low number.

There was some talk about stretching the field to CFL length - it may eventually come up for a vote. I think that's a pretty radical change.

I suggested this a couple of months ago and got hammered. But it would absolutely stop players leading with their heads.

Do you think Daniel Synder is going to vote to widen the field and have to remove 10-15k seats....not a chance in hell.

Tell you what, he could at least pay somebody to get some decent turf in there.
