I'm coming back to South Carolina

It's been a year and a half since I've been there. I go back every couple of years but it's always in Columbia.

This time, I am spending a few days in Myrtle Beach. I graduated high school from Conway but haven't been to the beach in over a decade. I've heard from my family I won't even recognize the place.

The reason I am going back? High school reunion. Maybe I will regret going but hopefully my visit will be worthwhile. I've noticed MB on that list of worst spring break destinations and read the comments about all the bad things people said about it.

I used to work at Myrtle Waves and always enjoyed Surfside Beach. I've got 4 days there in early May. What should I do? What warning do you have? How much has it really changed?

Yes, my friend, it has gone down hill. The type of tourists that go there, and Charleston for that matter, are not the highest of caliber. If you're going to the SC coast, i've got to say avoid MB and Charleston.

Because they're all from Ohio

If it's been over a decade, the Pavilion has closed and been demolished.

You shouldn't threaten people like that.

Time for the MB haters to come in and take over the thread.

That's too bad to hear. When I was young we went on vacation every year to Litchfield Beach and one day during the week we were there my parents would take us to MB and we'd go to the Pavillion, ride the rides, eat cotton candy. I loved the roller coaster - can't think of the name. Nice memories.

That roller coaster was the first one I ever rode in my life. Will be weird going back there now. I am both excited and a little apprehensive. Sounds like MB isn't going to be the place I remember it.

Was the roller coaster called the swamp fox?

Not sure.

the blue one was the corkscrew (I think)

In it later years, it was replaced by a wooden coaster that was very similar to the swamp fox.

We have a place at Litchfield and we still go there several times a year. That place has really had a lot of growth. It is still nice but no where near as quaint as it once was. I find that once I get about Garden City, the traffic and junk starts to take over. I still have many fond memories of the Pavillion. I was there theh last summer it was open...unfortunately I can't take my kids. There are a few of the rides at Broadway at the beach. Ahh, the memories...

NMB is still pretty nice for the most part...Mostly locals live here or folks from NC vacation here or have a home here..We still have our share of snow birds but it is not as bad as MB..

The wooden one at the Pavilion was the Hurricane.
