Coach Must be Doing Something Right

It starts with recruiting and then is followed by "coaching 'em up".

Just think...

Within days of one another...

1) Alshon Jeffery sets the all-time record for single-game receiving yards for the Chicago Bears -- a team that is nearly 100 YEARS OLD!

...and

2) Captain Munnerlyn sets the franchise record for pick 6's in a single season for the Carolina Panthers.

These are major recruiting points.

Used to be, naysayers would take shots at the Gamecocks, saying our guys couldn't cut it in the NFL. They sure aren't saying that anymore!

Wonder which gas station Lane Kiffin is working at these days!

Still, how many Gamecock fans do you know who think recruiting is meeting expectations? Our coaches are all handsomely paid. Maybe it's just me but it just seems that recruits should be knocking the door down to play for Coach and the Gamecocks. Seems like it's missing :(

Think Lane was actually invited to review the condition of the Bama offense recently.

might be coaching sooner rather than later.

so he isn't hurting.

hopefully he learned a little humility since he made those alshon comments

The location is lacking and so is the trophy case.

Those disappointed in recruiting aren't approaching the subject realistically or with a balanced perspective.

Building tradition takes time and then we'll have people beating our doors down. Spurrier and company are doing pretty doggone well. You can't just look at recruiting rankings.

Spurrier is fantastic at getting the most out of the players. So glad he chose to come here

It's not just Spurrier, it's our coaching staff.

Okay, Spurrier is fantastic at assembling the right set of coaches to get the most out of the players. So glad he chose to come here. :-)

recruiting will see dividends because of our guys' success in the league, no doubt about it. Biggest reason is Alshon thus far. I hear "Jeffery out of SCAR" so often on Sunday mornings and SC Top Tens now it is silly. It makes me so proud.

I love the South Carolina Gamecocks and the players/coaches who come through here. I just wish all this talent and great coaching would start resulting in SEC and national titles.

I realize that only a few teams other than Auburn, Florida, LSU and Alabama can lay any claim to the SEC over the last decade or two though.

So USC has to get more players that have to choose among the SEC's top programs and USC has to play better in road games.

But the play of former Gamecocks in the NFL is a great tool to have in the tool bag when hitting the recruiting trail.

^We are currently doing so. Several of our commits have multiple offers from all the top programs. Stanley, KC Crosby, Shaq Davidson, Abu Lamin, etc.

Really doubt that he has learned to be humble.

Re: Coach Must be Doing Something Right

in regards to some of the shortcoming in recruiting other than location and gold.....
one significant contributor is assistant pay scale, specifically lack thereof leadding to turnover. many prospects speak of the track records, relationship with and expectation of learning from thier respective position coach when choosing thier destination.
track record would include prev stops though one might reasonably state the productivity at the school and system the prospect is considering carries greater weight than past stops. the relationship typically dates back at least a 2/3yrs of HS, often more and the expectation is based on the 3-5 seasons the recruit is to spend under his position coaches guidence.
this requires a measure of stability. assembling then maintainiing the staff thus allowing the prospect to consider some reasonable expectation of having the position coach he chooses remain for all or most of his stay.
we have been losing assistants with ever growing frequency not only for marginal upgrades in position but often with no upgrade at all. often a major factor is pay scale.
