Chad Morris to Arkansas State (dead. They hired UNC OC)?

Former head coach Bryan Harsin has been hired by Boise State...so there is speculation Chad Morris could be the next head coach at Arkansas State.

Pros..
Close to Texas
Ran a similar spread system under Malzahn (most of those players still there)
A proven springboard job (Malzahn, now Harsin)

Cons.
-Not Texas or TAMU
-Pay...not sure ASU can match Clemson.

Honestly, if he wants to be a head coach, start small and prove you can win.
And as stated, Arkansas State has a good track record of coaches getting bigger jobs.

Wasn't he already the head coach at Tulsa?

Could take the same path as Gus, got to Arkansas St. then the head coach at your last school gets fired and get the job there.

Arkansas State has been basically an internship to a name program the past 3 years. Hugh Freeze to Ole Miss, Gus Malzahn to Auburn and Bryan Harsin to Boise State.

That has got to suck for the Ark. State players going through HC's year in and year out.

Morris won't leave until the right job opens up and Arkansas State isn't it.

No dude, he was the OC at Tulsa. It would be a good move for him. That place is a golden ticket to a bigger HC gig. Big fish in small pond. If it was good enough for his idol, it would likely be good enough for him. Also if they went after him it would likely be on Malzahn's recommendation, which would make it harder to turn down. He basically gave him his career.

Once the Texas job is taken, then it should be interesting to see where everyone else goes.

he's above that level of football, and I dont mean that in a bad way. He'll get a decent job at BCS school or maybe bigger than decent. Texas would be crazy if they didnt take a look at Chad Morris.

Wtf? He's got no head coaching experience and is ill prepared to handle the political minefield that is UTa football.

He could get a job at a BCS school but UTa is not one of them.

If they choose to go from the coordinator ranks he should be the 1 and only choice for Texas. That said they would have to miss on a few targets for that to be a possibility.

There can be no doubt. UT is the big stage. He needs seasoning in my opinion. But I could be wrong...................I don't thinks so though.

I think that whoever gets the job at Texas should look at him to be OC there. They would pay him more than clemson, even though he gets big bucks now.

Look at clempson before him and after him. He is a good coordinator, we just have better players and all around coaches. He can do fine at Texas, it happens to be his home state and where he won several state championships at different levels. Recruiting will be fine for him. Malzahn gets EJ and has a good combo. Texas needs to find a guy that will say yes, they don't want a Tennessee debacle of a few years ago.

Not like this hasn't happened before, like Mark Richt and Chuck Amato.

His buyout to go somewhere else as a coordinator is huge. He is only leaving to be a head coach.

ok.

BTW, Chad Morris is one of a handful of coordinators that makes 7 figures...Who do you think really runs that football team? The ONLY thing he doesnt do that Dabo Swinney does is handle the media. And if you wanna talk about the "political minefield" There are VERY few schools that are like that of Texas. In fact maybe the only one that compete is Alabama. There arent many head coaches out there that have dealt with anything like that.
