tablets for kids

Looking to buy my 7 year old a good kids tablet. Want one with parental controls and I can set on/off times. Does anyone have any experience with these products?

Kindle Fire HD or HDX would both be great for that. Amazon has a great control app. You can even set individual profiles for each person who uses the tablet. You can also restrict purchasing and it runs amazon's shell on top of android so it's not quite as open/easy to change things.

This has no camera. That is one reason I like it

My child's daily reading has increased exponentially since we purchased this. He did the read with the gamecocks program for free tickets and had the greatest number of pages read in his class. For someone that struggled last year, he sits down and reads everyday now. Times are a changing...just like Dylan said

Tablets are the new Gameboys for kids, except now they have a lot more of an educational purpose. Nothing wrong with getting them a tablet where they can play games, read books, browse the internet, and watch movies/tv shows.

I gave one of my twins my old Kindle (it's an older version, not the HD or HDX) after I got my iPad and he began reading more too. I linked the Kindle amazon account to his bank account, so when he wants to purchase a book it comes out of his pocket. Of course, I'll "gift" him books at times. There are upsides to technology!

Try the Kurio. My gf bought one for her son, and she said that he is really enjoying it. Definitely geared toward kids. I think she got it at Toys R Us because they had cases for em there too. I know part of the reason she got it was for controls like you mentioned. Time limit and stuff like that.
