I've been worrying about this game as a "trap" game all season , and now I learn Sessions is out with an ankle injury . Winthrop is a decent team , with a very good point guard . They lost by three to Charlotte at Charlotte . Hopefully, all the grammar school kids in attendance can create a little atmosphere .

Not sure if the video is free or not...usually it says when it is.

I saw Sessions walking with crutches at the mens game yesterday

Sessions is out for the next two games at least . By the way, I posted the game story link for the Dreher - Heathwood Hall game at Myrtle Beach . I put it in the "high school sports" section so I don't know if anyone will see it or not . Here it is again .

Yea, I expected Dreher to win that game just because of depth

Winner 69-61. Tiffany Davis filled in for K Sessions at the point. Tiffany Mitchell led the Gamecocks with 20 points.

We played a great 12 and a half minutes . Led 33-14 . Then it seemed like we tried to coast . Give Winthrop credit . They didn't quit . I was glad McClanahan fouled out with three minutes left . She's a good player . Leads their conference in scoring and assists .
A little trivia I picked up from the game poster . Winthrop starting center Shaquilla Nunn went to the same high school as Elem Ibiam , one year behind El .

I forgot this game was at noon, and totally missed it - rats. Good win for the Gamecocks: some more trivia is a former Gamecock Pamela Decheva now plays for Winthrop. She was at USC for only one season I believe. She hit 2-3 from the 3 and scored 8 pts today....

I was concerned a bit that Alaina Coates only appeared for 8 minutes in the game: she scored 3 pts and had 3 rebounds. After going 7-8 and scoring 15 pts with 8 rebs in 22 minutes versus UNC-Central on Dec. 3rd, she's had 12, 9, and 8 minutes in the last 3 games and scored a total of 5 pts in those games. This is quite a bit surprising to me considering until then she was one of our top scorers and rebounders thus far this season. It's not like we've gotten into the conference schedule yet, but I thought we'd need her size and length for the SEC schedule. She can't get experience on the bench......

I think Ibiam knows how to get position a little better at this point . Alaina had the Winthrop center on her hip calling for the lob today , but the Winthrop center was 6-3 . It's going to take a perfect lob in that case, and our guards were reluctant to try it . And when the lead started dwindling, we needed Ibiam's offense .
UNC didn't have a true center and they caused us as many matchup problems as we caused them . Mavunga showed she could knock down a 15 footer and whoever was guarding her had to respect that . Coach went with the experienced player more .

It was fun having all of the kids at the game today. A lot of adults could learn from their enthusiasm.

I worked section 108-109 Friday.......The best part was Mr. Carlton ("Baseline Jesus") getting the young kids in his section to stomp their feet in unison and him going around leading the different sections of children in the "Gamecocks" chant.
