Anyone play chess?

I used to play a lot in middle school and my freshman year in high school, but then I started running cross country and track and that took me away from chess. I even played in a few tournaments during those days. Anyways, I've rediscovered my love of chess over the past month of so and I've signed up on chess.com and I was wondering if anyone else here plays the game?

I used to LOVE playing Chess. I played a lot in High School and with some
buds of mine right after HS. Pre-Internet / digital age, it used to be popular
to play Chess by mail. My best friend growing up, ended up going to
South Carolina and he and I played a few games by mail after he got
settled in. .... I stopped playing for several years, then when the
Net became really popular, I started playing again online with a group of
guys and had a great time. It's where I spent most of my spare time
right before getting into message boards. .... I quit playing because there
was the small group of guys I started playing with, who had about the
same skill rating and the games were very competitive and even. A couple
of those guys went from (scale of 100 to 1000) somewhere in the 350-400
range to near 1000 in few weeks. .... Turns out they were using chess
programs set at expert level to do their moves for them while we played our
moves "by the book" (ourselves). The game went sour for me on the net
and haven't played online since. .... No way to determine if you're playing
the person you're talking to or a program he's using. ... I'll only play face
to face if I play again.

I used to play at it in school and now and again after. I would rate my skills as just modest but I did enjoy playing.

I used to play a good bit a decade or go. Before the digital age. Bought a few books on it and played my friends and bought an electronic game to play at work.

Married and a father now. Between work, family, and tennis...just don't have the time these days.

I love chess. I picked up a handmade set and board last time I was in Florence Italy

I can play the game, but very poorly. You would be hard pressed to find a worse player than me. A blind monkey could beat the shit out of me.

Seriously. That and the fact that you started the OB thread are impressive

I have played a lot on there, not recently though. What's nice is you can get the app and play as you go, with a 24 hour (or whatever you fancy) time limit. Taking turns like that, as people can play, is fun.

I enjoy playing chess, although I'm not very good. Last time I played was a few years ago and I got beat like I was a rented mule.

I love playing, but I am absolutely horrible. I have a chess app on my phone, and the easiest setting beats my ass. One day I'll take the time and learn some of the maneuvers and strategies.

I wish I would have kept playing throughout college. I seriously stopped playing for 6-7 years through high school and college. I would say I'm below average to average, whatever that means. I play on my phone at 1350-1400 elo but I don't think the app is as accurate as it claims to be. My user name on chess.com is jus10savestheday. Feel free to find me. Maybe if we can get enough people, we could organize a cockytalk chess tournament.

I play daily on msn zone.com. It's a pretty good site. You can play beginner, rated or non-rated games until you get into the flow. My handle on the zone is oooShadeooo.

Used to play a good bit overseas. In Iraq we got a random Chess strategy book and small table in a USO care package and it was the most popular thing in the Plt during downtime. I'm personally not very good at all.

My wife on the other hand is quite good and when we lived in Thailand we played a lot. I've literally beat her once....yep, once. Surreal chess moment - during the bombings around Bangkok new years eve 2006 we were essentially quarantined in our apts throughout the city. The wife and I set up a chess board on the balcony (11th floor), drank scotch, smoked cigars, and listened to explosions and sirens.

chess.com name is markymark550 for anyone interested in playing

Only played the computer so far though. I can beat the beginner level, but I'm sure my strategy isn't that great.
