NFL draft order?

Since Houston wrapped up the #1 pick it got me to thinking about the order of picks after #1. I know the playoff teams' draft positions are TBD, but how about the other teams? Who picks first between Atlanta and Tampa Bay? They split the season series and will finish with identical records, so how is the order determined in cases like that?

Re: NFL draft order?

I think the Rams get the second pick by virtue of the RGIII trade with the Redskins. I'm not sure what the tiebreaker is in a scenario like TB-ATL. I don't think it's as simple as a coin flip but I could be wrong.

I believe it goes by SOS.

But here are the top 10 picks

1. Houston Texans (2-14)
2. St. Louis Rams via Washington Redskins (3-13)
3. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-12)
4. Cleveland Browns (4-12)
5. Oakland Raiders (4-12)
6. Atlanta Falcons (4-12)
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12)
8. Minnesota Vikings (5-10-1)
9. Buffalo Bills (6-10)
10. Detroit Lions (7-9)

I think we see Clowney going to Oakland.

Don't want him anywhere near Jacksonville, Cleveland or Oakland. Those are talent graveyards.

Give STL's trading habits I wouldn't be shocked if this happens. On a side note if STL stands at that spot it will be interesting if they go top player on the board and wait for QB until their other 1st rounder or go top QB and go with whoever is top on their board later.

Re: NFL draft order?

IMO I think Atlanta would be best for him. Like a previous poster said, no one succeeds in Cleveland, Jacksonville, or Oakland. That said, I think Jacksonville and Oakland will take QB's.

I think they draft Matthews or Lewan (or whoever the best LT prospect is by that time; remember Fisher was on no one's radar around now) and give Bradford one more try.

But I could see him fall to 6

This is exactly right. There's been some discussion about Bob McNair wanting to speak to SOS privately after the game.

Houston already has a bunch of good players and wouldn't need to totally rebuild.

Skins are picking in the first round. I don't know where, but they will be picking there.
Unless Snyder sells the team in the next 90 days.

I would not be surprised to see Jeff Fischer take JD

GarnetHero 12-30-2013 11:28 AM

Re: NFL draft order?

Really hope Texans take JD. Texans are built to win now. Remember they were a sexy pick in the pre-season. Injuries and shoddy QB play killed them.

Just seeing him and Watt on the D-line is crazy. Still have weapons on offense.
Johnson has a few more seasons. Foster should be %100 to start the season and Owen Daniels will be back healed.
Im not a Texans fan but that a good team with a talent. (See ATL)

Re: NFL draft order?

Living in Houston, I can tell you it will all come down to Bridgewater's evaluation and if he is a worthy of the #1 pick and can be a solid starting QB. He does not need to be a suepr stud, just a solid QB. If not, then they should take JD. I wonder if the next DC in Houston will scrap the Wade Phillips 3-4. That will have some impact.

I thought Birdgewater only helped his case in their bowl game, but a long time until that first pick.

Lonnie 12-30-2013 11:53 AM

Re: NFL draft order?

In a QB heavy Draft, the Texans could pick JD in round 1 and a solid QB in round 2 or later.

Take Clowney....I'm sure McCarron or Murray will be around at 33

I'm good as long as JD doesn't go to ATL. I would hate to see him in a Falcon's uniform.

Re: NFL draft order?

The Rams should trade down to around 7 or 8 and get another future 1st rounder or a couple of 2nd rounders. They need OL and DB help and there will still be the cream of the crop at #7 or wherever
