Reason to wish James Franklin well

I'm assuming that Franklin is taking the gig at Penn State.

Here's why I am pulling for him to succeed there -- unlike other coaches who leave without saying goodbye to the young men he recruited, Franklin has the stones to meet with them in person and explain why he's leaving, encourage them to press on for their new coach, etc.

That's classy. And worthy of respect.

he might not be the best X's and O's guy, but this guy wins in the locker room, on the recruiting trail, and the hearts of his players

I don't have a vid, but here's a pic of Vandy fans gathering to welcome the players to the meeting w/Franklin this morning.

He's a great coach and apparently a nice guy. I just hope he knows what he's getting into at Penn State.

Wow! I didn't know Vandy students ever left the library

I was never impressed with the guy. I always thought he was a loud mouth cheerleader type kind of like Deebo but in a much tougher situation. Of course that might be because that was the thing that was needed at Vandy. At least he did get them to a couple of bowl games.

James Franklin always went about things the right way, but the fanbase at that school he is going to does not deserve a class act like him at all.

I'm sure he does, unless he's been away from a TV/computer for the past 3 years. Personally I think he's a great fit and as a Penn State fan I'm excited about the hire.

I'm not talking about the scandal, but about how everyone will expect him to do it Joe Pa's way. PS fans are stuck in the past.

I'm sorry if your experience with a few Penn State fans has not been pleasant. My dad attended the school and is a fan, and every fan I've met through him has been great.

I think he'll do well, but there's a few ?? with his reputation as a respectable guy due to the recent scandal at Vandy.

Has nothing to do with my experience...lol. I was referring to what O'Brien said.

I think Franklin is a GREAT grab for PS and as a fan, you should be stoked. I just hope it works out for him and the fans let him do his thing.

I was quoting Spurrier_Superior_One, who said the Penn State fanbase did not deserve a classy coach.

But I agree with your last sentence. I hope the fans up there do too.

My great uncle was on the board of trustees of Penn State for more than 20 years so I got to go to about 5 of their games growing up and I had mixed experiences. When I was a kid siting in the box with him it was awesome and I had a blast getting to meet JoePa etc. When I got older I went and sat in the stands with my cousin and it was down right awful the way that fan base treated the visiting fan base. I actually saw a old woman in her 80's probably take her cane and hit some kid from Minnesota for no reason at all. I mean she hit him hard and for no reason at all he was minding his business. I have never in my life seen a fan base treat an opposing fan base so badly and this was on multiple occasions.

Never knew PSU fan base was like that.

Like I said, in my experience they haven't been. I have no doubts they have crazies and I hate that people have had experiences like that.
