How Far We Have Come WBB

I just went back and have reread some of the old WBB threads we have come a long way in a short time. Its funny how we were excited about the recruiting classes of Coach W and a lot of her players never even made it on campus. I can even remember the comments made about Coach Staley when our freshman "superstar" at the time Jordan Jones decided to leave the program. I think we don't give Dawn enough credit for the job she has done so far. I'm seeing comments about how important it is for us to get to 5k in attendance back when we had a team that won 4 SEC games. We owe to our great coach to get behind her and give this team the encouragement they deserve.

It truly is a Great Time To Be a Gamecock:woo:

Dawn Staley believes...... Her Player's believe...... People that follow this team believe too!

Soon the rest will believe!

Frank is perfectly capable of turning around the men's program. The women's team was awful in Dawn's first 2 years.

If anything, the women's success should show just how long it takes for a head coach to establish their system and get the right talent in place to succeed.

2004-05 Susan Walvius 821 212 12th
2005-06 Susan Walvius 1712 77 7th WNIT First Round
2006-07 Susan Walvius 1815 68 T-7th WNIT Sixteen
2007-08 Susan Walvius 1616 410 T-9th WNIT First Round

Staley's first three seasons:
20082009 South Carolina 1018 212 11th
20092010 South Carolina 1415 79 T7th

Half of the most recent threads on Cockytalk are about women's basketball, that's how far we've come

I want to see us get to where we lead the country in attendance.

We were 26th in the country in attendance last season and we have improved our average attendance by more than 1000 per game so far this season. Our current average attendance is 5047 per game this season, which would be 18th if you look at last season's overall attendance figures in 2012-13, Tennessee led the country with an average of 11,390 per game. UCONN was actually only 6th at 8977. I think a top five USC team could certainly average over 10,000, especially if we make a deep tournament run this season.

Note: we were 3rd in the country in average attendance increase last season.
