Heard that on the news this morning and thought it was a nice clause to put
in his contract. I think "Gamecock For Life" is a nice way to word it, but he's
basically agreed to be "An Ambassador" for the team and school and continue
to help plug the program when he gets the opportunity to speak publicly about
football, and his career. .... The thing I'm not sure about is: Was this done
for Coach Holtz when he left ? Lou has continued to talk up USC and the
football program since he joined the ESPN staff, and only talks highly of the
program and school too. IMO, he may have had the same clause in his contract
when he left. Either way, it'll be nice knowing we have two MAJOR coaching
giants out there talking about South Carolina and Gamecock football for
a long time after they've retired.

The Spurriers are good people. We are so fortunate to have them and I'm so glad Steve has found his goove here.
I'm happy when others are happy. :woo:

What stood out most to me was all assistants got 2-year extensions. Which IIRC is a change in policy from the past where assistants were all on 1-year contracts.

This all got started when Spurrier told Tanner he intended to live in Columbia after he stopped coaching. That surprised me because I thought he'd be going to Fla.

Thisis just my opinion, but I think the what have you done for me lately attitude at UF soured HBC a little. Jeremy Foley basically screwed the pooch with the handling of his head coach. Otherwise the majority of this talk on the board would be about how much we hate Spurrier and how he keeps on running up the score against us.

He is going to break Bear Bryants SEC win record here.
He is going to win the SEC here.
And we are going to name the it Spurrier Field at Williams Brice Stadium and call it "The Spur."

Bye bye, wanderlust. SOS's heart found home when he came to Cola, SC. Always a Gamecock at heart, and now a Gamecock for life. Doesn't get any better than this.

Anyone wanna buy a barrel of formaldehyde? Don't guess I'm gonna need it. Half price. Anyone??

These days my heart bursts with pride when I ID myself as a Gamecock. Also be a lot easier to keep tabs on your guys this way, Coach. Whenever I re-establish contact with one of my boys-especially if I haven't heard from him in a while-it's a good day to be a bewhiskered old man in northeastern SC. Just like you've made it a good day to be a Gamecock. Tks to you, Coach & Miss Jerri.

My favorite quote from the article, talking about how long he'll coach:

“I hope he coaches, as I was chatting with him, he said ‘many, many years.’ He used ‘many’ two times. ‘Many, many years,’ and that’s all good with me.”
