Separate division for SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12, Big 12

Quote:

SAN DIEGO The big leagues appear poised to get their way and their own division within the NCAA.

Polling of the roughly 800 administrators at the NCAA convention's dialog on governance revealed solid support for an autonomous voting body for the five most powerful conferences the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12 and Big 12. Fifty-eight percent of those administrators from all levels of NCAA membership were in support of autonomy for the power conferences; 30 percent were opposed; 12 percent were neutral.

I'm glad to see this might happen. I've been a fan of college football since 2005, and always saw teams like Boise St, Hawaii, and TCU go undefeated, and not have a shot at the NCG. At first I was mad, but after seeing how UGA handled Hawaii, it made sense. I think all 10 conferences can play bowl games against each other, but both divisions should have their own playoffs. Thanks for the read.

Horrible idea either you are an FBS school or you an FCS school there should be no hybrid/mid point if your conference don't want to play big boy football demote your conference to FCS level.

^This 100%. If they want it the other way, then they need to drop the other conferences to the FCS.

The levels already exist. Some schools and conferences just don't want to accept that are not in the top tier. You might as well just make the levels more official to improve the competition. 50 - 0 games in the 3rd quarter do nothing for the sport.

Yep they were called BCS conferences, and then the rest. BCS got ranking privileges over the Non BCS schools. The new divisions should be FBS division 1 which would be the big 5, and FBS division 2 which would have the other 5 conferences. Each division will have their own playoff, but could bowl against each other. Nothing changes, but it's a fact Miami(OH) will rarely ever beat Miami(FL), or the top 10 teams in the nation.

Not to ReadRooster, but the people who thinks it's a bad move. Relax this will hardly change anything by how things are done now, the only difference is teams in the Sunbelt, AAC, Conf Usa, MWC, MAC will have their own playoff. Good move, and gives the smaller schools that are halfway decent a chance to win some championship trophy's, that they would never get the way it is now.

Will they redo the conferences you think? Basically do an NFL TV negotiation and split the money equally throughout the schools. This would then let them divide the teams into groups of 8 - assuming there are a total of 64 teams - then they could just take the pool winners to an 8 team playoff. Also this would restore the natural rivals and conferences.

I say we create 5 different divisions.

We could name them:
A
AA
AAA
AAAA
AAAAA

5A would be the SEC.

I think this sets the stage for paying players.....no other way around it.

The ACC and B1G are not "Top Tier" conferences. FSU got lucky to see Auburn minus horseshoe up ass, and Clemson, well all I can say is Clemson, that should define itself.

There are Two big conferences in the nation and a few select schools. The PAC and the SEC should split from the NCAA, Poach schools from the ACC/B1G/Big 12 and create a Collegiate super conference with 16-20 teams a piece broken into 2 or more Divisions.

Money would be more concentrated to schools within these conferences, players would actively seek any and all of these schools out enough to maybe start a High school draft.

The only thing that stands in the way is tradition. And eventually, Money trumps Tradition. If not the SEC and the PAC, two other conferences will eventually try it.

The ACC won the National Championship this year. They can at least compete with the other conferences. It's not about who is the absolute best, its about providing realtively equal competition. Some teams I think need to get picked up by bigger conferences. Boise State and UCF don't deserve to be left out. So much conference realignment is going on right now. I don't think it would be a good idea until that shakes itself out a little more.

If these conferences leave the NCAA than yes, if they stay than, no. NCAA will have no part in paying players. But remember, there is no way AROUND Title IX.

The ACC performance in BCS bowls was horrendous through the history of the BCS, it wasn't until 2 years the ACC managed an at large bid and in the final BCS year they managed to win both their BCS games, no the ACC is no where near a top tier conference.

B1G is a money making conference but it is the retirement home of big time football.

I agree wholeheartedly.

However, I wish college football could separate themselves completely from the NCAA. I honestly despise the NCAA.

This will ultimately destroy college football, the P65 won't be happy until they have all the power if they want to leave then leave the NCAA. There is no need to pay student athletes anything more than a free education and room/board. People cannot get it through their heads that football funds the rest of the athletic department so you get can get football players out of poverty and into a University but damn the non revenue student athlete in the exact same position. This pay players is the summation of the Entitlement Generation.

Doesn't matter, a team from your conference wins a National Championship in recent years, you are in. They are winning BCS bowls NOW, they are competitive NOW. They are defeating teams from other BCS conferences NOW. The have the national championship NOW. So there is no way around the ACC being included. They are just as much a top tier conference as the BIG 10 or Big 12. They only conferences better are the SEC and the PAC 12. There is no way you are leaving out major programs like Miami, Florida State, VA Tech. Programs with a great history like GA Tech. You aren't leaving out clemson who constantly a top 25 team and has a large fan base, or Boston College that has a big rivalry with Notre Dame. You can't discount the rivalries, Pitt has a rivalry with Penn State. They aren't going to do this if they are not going to get to keep their rivalries in tact. We would FIGHT to have Clemson be included.
