WBB big chance to win East

Watching this UT vs ND game we got a chance this year. UT has 0 heart and it looks like A&M is the only team who will beat us if we play our game.

There is no east or west in basketball.

You guys beat me to it. You also are overlooking the fact that we already lost head to head with A&M for sole lead in the SEC. That being said it is still very much doable to win the SEC outright.

To have a shot we can't lose any of the next 5 games. Our last 5 games are pretty brutal having to go to Knoxville, Lexington, and Baton Rouge and having Florida and Georgia at home.

If we win the first 5 and can somehow go 3-2 in the last 5 we would end up at 13-3 which may or may not be good enough

It isn't likely that A&M will win out and it would be more fun to win the SEC Tournament, though I'd like to win the regular season and the tournament.

I feel for Holly Warlick - it's impossible to follow a legend.

LSU has looked very good at times although they have lost a couple

Apparently every single recruit that Geno see's he is constantly telling them that they will get hit on and practically raped by the coaching staff at UTjr. That is the way the peeps at volnation would have you believe it.

I just went over to one of the Tennessee boards and they're already freaking out that their dynasty is crumbling. I've always said that Dawn Staley would be the next Pat Summitt in the SEC and I think that's coming to fruition. Andy "Brylcream" Landers is close to retirement, the guy at A&M is up in years, Matthew "Brylcream" Mitchell is just weird. Dawn is building a dynasty at Carolina. Look at the job this coaching staff has done with Alaina Coates - just a freshman. She has really turned it up since conference play began. Dawn is still bringing her along slowly, as Alaina is still coming in off the bench. Talk about an instant boost off the bench.

Alaina is very athletic. She runs the floor like a guard. She also has a quick second jump and knows how to use her length. She has a bright future

I knew Alaina was highly recruited, but she wasn't a top ten recruit. She's certainly playing like one right now.

Re: WBB big chance to win East

Alaina Coates is playing like a legit 5* IMO. In women's BB, a legit 5* should be a player that is an immediate impact player for her team, becoming not only a major contributor but a leader on the floor in games.

Players can come in as lower rated prospects, and over time during their careers develop into 5* caliber players: IMO, both Welch and Mitchell are playing like 5* caliber players. They have at times put the team on their shoulders and carried it, and are among the top of conference statistics in various categories. Tiffany has mostly played the 2 and 3 positions, but lately has been asked to play more at 1 to cover for inconsistencies at the point. The last game vs Alabama, she did so and had 8 assists, which may be the most assists for a Gamecock in any single game this season. That's how versatile and talented she is...

But Alaina is doing it as a true freshman. She was rated by ESPN's HoopGurlz as a 95-grade 4*, and 28th overall. A 96 grade gave a 5th star in that particular 2013 class. There were other girls rated above her that ended up coming to SEC schools:

Overall #1 (98-grade 5*) P Mercedes Russell (UT): SEC - 5.2 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.2 bpg/Overall - 7.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.5 bpg

#5 (97-grade 5*) G Linnae Harper (UK): SEC - 6.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.2 apg/Overall - 7.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 0.9 apg

#13 (96-grade 5*) W Ronnie Williams (UF): SEC - 6.8 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.2 bpg/Overall - 8.4 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.4 bpg

#16 (96-grade 5*) PG Rebekah Dahlman (Vanderbilt): SEC - NR (out w/injury)/Overall - 6.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 0.9 apg

#17 (96-grade 5*) F Jessica Jackson (Arkansas): SEC - 19.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.5 bpg/Overall - 16.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.6 bpg

#18 (96-grade 5*) G Raigyne Moncrief (LSU): SEC - 5.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.0 apg/Overall - 10.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.3 apg

#21 (95-grade 4*) F Marques Webb (Vanderbilt): SEC - 4.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.7 apg/Overall - 6.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 0.9 apg

#28 (95-grade 4*) P Alaina Coates (USC): SEC - 12.8 ppg, 9.8 rpg (2nd in SEC), 2.5 bpg (3rd in SEC)/Overall - 12.0 ppg, 8.1 rpg (7th in SEC), 2.0 bpg (3rd in SEC)

Only Arkansas' Jackson is backing up her lofty prep rating thus far. Alaina is also leading the conference thus far with her .566 field goal % in conference play, and overall at .621% as well.

USC is better than solid in the paint this season - something that was foreign to say in past years. The guard play however has been struggling, even when Sessions was healthy. USC is 3rd in the SEC in assists which is good, but dead last in conference play in turnover margin, and next to last in steals. Only UGA has turned the ball over more in conference games (108) than USC (107) - that can't happen if we want to be conference champions...

As conference play continues the opposing teams left on the schedule will start to target our guards and put pressure on them. We're a good enough team this year to win the SEC IMO, but unless we toughen up within our guard play and protect the ball better, those goals will slip through our hands.

Also, winning to tournament might be better from a seed perspective, although at this point I think a 2 is the best proposition, but you never know.

i went back through the threads a couple weeks ago and Cockhorn you have been consistent on all of your posts. I see things that you were talking about four and five years ago coming to true. From the importance of attendance to the fact that with Dawn we would begin to see the shift of USC becoming the face of SEC women's hoops. How amazing it is to go to ESPN and read articles and the first thing they are talking about is us. Guys we are truly in a special era for Carolina sports. I know many on here questioned the salary that she was given when she first started here and I believe she has proven she has been worth every dime of it. If we had a few more people who would come out and watch a game I think they would almost slap themselves that they hadn't paid $7 dollars sooner to watch theses girls play. I often times make the drive down from Greenville and have never left a game unimpressed. The funny thing is I now find myself watching other teams just to see how we would stack up against them.

I do feel that TAMU has everything in their favor to win the regular season but I have a feeling they end up with a couple of loses. I also feel that our team learned a valuable lesson in that game...We Can Beat Whoever We Want if we focus on the little things.
