Five Veteran Players In Hot Soup With Holbrook

According to GoGamecocks.com, Coach Holbrook today after the scrimmage stated in the presser that five veteran players have violated "team rules", although while not specifying what those violations were, he did state that they weren't in any "legal trouble". The five named were Jack Wynkoop, Grayson Greiner, Joey Pankake, Max Schrock, and Brison Celek. Or pretty much all of our top leaders for this season, minus Montgomery and English, lol.

No determination on what punishment - if any - will be doled out for the violations, although the article indicated that Wynkoop may lose his start in the opening weekend against Bucknell, and may be pushed to a mid-week appearance the following Tuesday versus Presbyterian....

John Whittle from TBS/247 also reporting the same thing, at least it's not a legal issue.

As Barney Fife once said 'Rule number 1, obey all rules.'

Hopefully it was something like Micheal Roth would do, playing a joke and it just didn't end well, and everything will be fine this year.

The coaching staff is simply disappointed with some actions taken this weekend. Nothing major in terms of arrest or anything like that.

Maybe it had something to do with the Jason Aldean concert? I know the coaches were at the concert, and this situation ironically occurred the day after it.

As I referenced dissapointment in my last post, this is from TBS:

Quote:

When you talk about off the field, are you talking about the way they conduct themselves in their personal lives?
It’s just some things they need to handle in a better way. There’s some accountability with being a baseball player here at South Carolina. We expect them to do certain things. When they don’t, it’s disappointing, but they’re youjng kids, too. They’re good kids and I love them to death, but it’s the first weekend of practices and I shouldn’t have to be talking about that.
It was just little team stuff. No one is in trouble with the law or anything. It’s stuff we ask them to do - showing up on time, being in the right place at the right time, doing what you’re supposed to do - all of those kinds of things are important. When some veteran leaders of your team don’t do what you ask them to do, it’s disappointing. They’ll be fine. We’ll get them going here tomorrow. Sixty-four degrees tomorrow, we’ll have a great workout tomorrow. They’ll sleep tomorrow night, I can assure you of that.
Media will blow this out of proportion without knowing the cause, but Holbrook said himself that "they'll be fine", and insinuated that he will run them for punishment. Also said that Wynkoop might make a midweek start or two before joining the weekend rotation (if that be his destination). He seems to be extra-ticked at Wynkoop more than anyone else. Which is shocking seeing as Wynkoop has never been in any trouble while at Carolina.

This might be even more the reason...leaders need to act like leaders.

Maybe they made some negative comments about kids being at the baseball games.

Their punishment will include extra workouts on the playground.

Wow I knew Holbrook couldn't fill the shoes of Tanner. He doesn't have the ability to have his team ready to go so he berates them then says 5 of our best players violated unspecified team rules. Yeah what a joke. So I guess at the end of the year when we aren't up to par he will find some other excuse for why his team cant win.

I remember when Tanner had 3 or 4 players who mysteriously sat out the first game of the season . That was back when we were still at Sarge Frye and there wasn't quite as much media attention on the team . Rumor then was there had been a little altercation in five points . Hard to keep things "in house" nowadays .

Your reading skills lack if this is the conclusion you came to when reading this.

Leaders need to act like leaders, and the skipper should always react harshly when there is a lack of leadership on a team.
