Well since it's looking like we will probably be pretty thin at DE next year. Do ya'll think English will add enough weight this off-season to be effective on every down?

Any chance he get's to 250? That's about 20 lbs.

I think he will be lucky to be 240 by this fall.

I will take 240!! Dude is quick.

Re: Darius English

Weight isn't the be-all, end-all part of being an effective DE. There have been plenty of guys who have had success playing the positioned while being "undersized." With that said, English does need to add some more weight to help him deal with the big tackles he'll be facing regularly.

Re: Darius English

We really need to get him to be 240 lbs to even be serviceable as a DE in our package. If he could maintain his speed and go above that, than it's just gravy.

Re: Darius English

He will have to work hard to get to 250 but that would be best. I think he can do it. I know he is quick but when you face an elite tackle weighing 320-330, every pound helps. Also hope he listened to advice from Clowney.

I have no doubt about his speed. His size is all of the concern. As long as he is strong for his size he can still be effective.

He could be just like Vic Beasley was this year.

Re: Darius English

how much did Taylor weigh his soph season (the first one he started)? I remember I thought he was too light, going into the season, but that was in some respects his best season and he was certainly more than adequate. We also have to remember we are probably going to have some beasts in the LB core to help stone the run.

Oh god another "weight" thread.

The kid had the means and access to add as much good weight as he wants to at USC if he is dedicated. He should of added it already. Something is wrong in the dedication department

It's absolutely doable, with enough discipline. As long as he maintains a quick first step he'll be fine. His effectiveness every down will be determined by his motor, he can be 250 but he's gotta WANT to be a disruptive force

Or some people just have high metabolism and can't gain weight as easy as others.
Add in the rigorous conditioning, and he has trouble.

Weight isn't everything...strength is more important...if he is getting stronger, that helps...love for him to be 240.

We have dietitians that work for the team, and reports are Darius is packing in as much food as he can without trying to gain bad weight.

I'll trust them over some anonymous person who is probably overweight...i.e. you.

Are you a dietitian?
Or a professional body builder? Or a doctor?

If is genetically proven some bodies gain weight easier than others.
Women gain weight easier than men...people that are born leaner have trouble gaining weight...English has a lean frame and it will be harder for him to gain weight.

Of course, he could go to Bojangles everyday, then he would gain weight, but it would be useless.
Good weight is hard to gain...maybe if you actually got your ass off the couch and out of your ass you'd know that.

It's extremely difficult for some people. Especially those looking to pack on "good weight" in a short amount of time.

What are you talking about????? No one is trying to act tough. How long have you been on cocky talk? I've posted stuff related to exercise and fitness all the time on here and have had good discussions with others in the industry like Gaichon.

I have helped tons of people lose and gain weight to better themselves and their lives.

I have a little more knowledge on this topic than other ransoms posters here.

That is true. It takes time. A series of bulking and cutting takes a full offseason. But anyone can do it especially at his age
