Re: 2015 - Sterling Johnson

DL Sterling Johnson (6-5 290) of Clayton, NC is one of the top prospects in his state coming off of a season of 80 tackles and 8 sacks. “He’s a great kid with a high motor,” said his coach Marc Morris. “He plays hard from whistle to whistle. He plays on the inside but gets out on screens and makes tackles. He really moves. And he plays with his hands well and has really long arms.”
The recruiting process is heating up for Johnson who holds offers from Clemson, USC, Florida, NC State, Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Michigan.
“He’s enjoying it riding around and visiting a bunch of schools,” Morris said. “He’s been somewhere each weekend. Alabama, Florida State, South Carolina, Clemson. He has not narrowed his list. Once spring is over he wants to set down and look at every possibility and try to pick the best one.”
Recruiters from Clemson and USC are expected to be thru the school to check on Johnson during this spring evaluation period.

Committed to Clemson. Our VQ guys said he tried to commit to TN bit we weren't ready to take his commitment. Looks like we missed our chance. Doh! Can't slow play these good players

This was posted by Kornblut prior to Johnson's announcement, and explains how his decision process went:

Defensive tackle Sterling Johnson back in play after Tennessee slow played him

May 13, 2014 by Phil Kornblut Johnson

DL Sterling Johnson of Clayton, NC remains on the recruiting market this afternoon and Tennessee has been dropped from his list according to a source with knowledge of his recruiting. These developments took place Tuesday afternoon after Johnson called the Vols to make a commitment but was told they wanted to see him in camp first this summer.
According to the source, Johnson was told by Tennessee that two of their defensive ends had put on enough weight to move inside and they only had room for one more defensive tackle, so they wanted to see him in camp before accepting an commitment. The source said this was something the Vols had not previously presented to Johnson and neither he nor his mother were happy about it. The source said that in Johnson’s mind Tennessee has been eliminated and that his mother has for sure dropped them.
Clemson remains a major players with Johnson. The Tigers have had their two spring visits with him and were in contact with coaches at the school Tuesday. Alabama and Ohio State are the other top schools with Johnson at this point according to the source. Johnson has visited Clemson and Alabama and has plans to visit Ohio State later this month.
