Is there a Safelite? I've used them in Charlotte and was pleased. They're a national franchise I believe.

I hear good things about Sheppard's Glass, but I can't speak from experience on them since I live so far away from Columbia. I wish you luck though, because windows can be a pane in the ass.

I recently replaced my kitchen's door and window form Alpha. They serves quite good and most importantly they are quite reasonable as well it took 80$ to replace the entire thing. Actually my door's and windows glasses were broken and required to be changed. I called them so they suggested me to use hurricane protection glass in place of the normal glass and assured that this will significantly raise the life of the windows. Apart from this they even installed aluminum plates at the edges of both the doors and windows this can help in storm protection. So if you want you can check Alpha impact doors and windows. This was the pic during construction. check this pic

I would check energy efficiency of the impact vs regular windows and they have been known to be less efficient. I don't see the benefit of the extra cost of impact when only doing one window.

As far as the OP, it depends on what is needed to be done. Pane replacement due to cracking, fogging of glass, balance rods extended or leaking. All can require different steps to correct. Also, if those were builder grade stock windows or is this an older home where the windows have to be measured to have the factory provide the proper size.
