2014 Projected Depth Chart

My opinion on how I see our depth chart to look against A&M:

QB: Dylan Thompson/Brendan Nosovitch

RB: Mike Davis/Brandon Wilds

FB: Connor McLaurin/Joe Blue

TE: Busta Anderson/Jerell Adams

WR: Shaq Roland/Shamier Jeffery

WR: Nick Jones/Jody Fuller

WR: Damiere Byrd/Pharoh Cooper

OT: Corey Robinson/Cody Gibson

OG: AJ Cann/Brock Stadnik

OC: Cody Waldrop/Clayton Stadnik

OG: NaTy Rodgers/DJ Park

OT: Brandon Shell/Mike Matulis

DE: Gerald Dixon/Gerald Turner

DT: JT Surratt/Kelsey Griffin

DT: Gerald Dixon Jr/Abu Lamin

DE: Jhaustin Thomas/Darius English

LB: TJ Holloman/Kawain Lewis

LB: Skai Moore/Marcquis Roberts

LB: Sharrod Golightly/Jordan Diggs

CB: Jamari Smith/DJ Smith

SS: Brison Williams/Kadetrix Marcus

FS: Chaz Elder/TJ Gurley

CB: Rico McWilliams/Wesley Green

A few notes, I only listed the starters and two deep, but I fully expect to see players like Bryant, Dukes, Walton, etc contribute. As for the incoming freshman, I'd expect everyone to r/s except for (assuming everyone qualifies) McClain, Wideman, Sawyer, Lammons, Blue, Green, Smith, and Samuel.

So, thoughts?

much too soon.....I need to spend more time being happy about our 21 today.
I just took another look......a bunch of these ain't happening. For example, it's likely
Ronnie Martin won't be on the team after the spring semester. You don't have BAW on the two deep.

Re: 2014 Projected Depth Chart

I also thought DJ Smith was recruited to play Safety, not Corner.

We're loaded at LB right now, but you might be right about Martin and I forget about J. Smith.

I was under the impression he would start at corner and then move to safety later.

You're correct. Plus, even if you weren't, Lammons would most likely be seated ahead of him opposite Green.

Looks close...glad to see the same OL starts from the past few years...those guys have no excuse to not be great this year.

Man I wish adams and or crosby could play on defense.

Re: 2014 Projected Depth Chart

QB: Thompson, Mitch, Nosovitch
RB: Davis, Wilds, Carson
FB: McLaurin, Gist
LT: Robinson, Matulis
LG: Cann, B. Stadnick
C: Waldrop, C. Stadnick
RG: Rogers, Park
RT: Shell, Gibson
TE: Anderson, Adams, Rainey
WR: Roland, Jeffery
WR: Byrd, Jones
WR: Cooper, Fuller

DE: Dixon, Cooper, Harris
DT: Dukes, Lamin, Griffin
DT: Surratt, Dixon Jr., Johnson
DE: Thomas, English, Turner
WLB: Moore, Roberts
MLB: Lewis, Holloman, Walton
SPUR: Golightly, Diggs, Bryant
CB: McWilliams, Green
FS: Elder, Gurley
SS: Williams, Marcus
CB: J. Smith, Groves or Lammons

I actually think we RS a lot of our new guys.
-If DJ Smith is brought in to play safety, he can have a year to devlop.
-Joe Blue I think will be on special teams.
-BAW I think could RS to put on some more weight and learn the D
-Stallworth, McClain, Sawyer, Ritchie and Wideman could all have the luxury to RS, but I can see Sawyer earning PT on special teams.

-both OL will RS, as will Scarnecchia, and the only WR I can see making an impact is Samuel as a kick/punt returner. Davidson could use a year to fully heal up an add some weight, and Googer also has the luxury to learn the playbook and not be counted on day 1.

But if these freshman we have are better than guys on the roster, I say play the frosh...you find your best 44 (two deep on each side) and run with them.

Re: 2014 Projected Depth Chart

This reminds me how deep we are at DT and LB/Spur. Hope Dukes can get some quality PT this year somehow behind all those guys along with Bryant at LB/Spur but may the best man win.

Cockypantherfan 02-06-2014 12:28 PM

Re: 2014 Projected Depth Chart

I don't know that BAW needs to RS for weight purposes... he is already 6'1 or 6'2 230 lbs... he is fantastic size for an incoming LB.

Shamier better show something in the spring if he wants to be on the two deep.

Re: 2014 Projected Depth Chart

Unless Noso has made drastic improvements from last spring to this spring, I don't see him moving into the backup spot... barring a meltdown from Mitch.

I like Shon Carson and he is going to play a lot this year, I just believe that Williams is going to beat him out on the depth cart.

Agreed...I don't see it.

I actually think the Samuel kid from Chapman is the steal of this year's recruiting class. It won't surprise me in the least if he plays as a true freshman.

Gamecocks1137 02-06-2014 01:17 PM

Re: 2014 Projected Depth Chart

If Shamier doesn't pan out this year, or at least get something, I don't care how small it is, but something has got to start going for him. He either transfers, he he may be cut. He isn't anywhere near the talent level his brother was, and I am not judging him for that, but he hasn't done a thing since he has been here.

Why would you think a 4th string RB would "play a lot"?

Because he will. You will not see Mike Davis carrying the rock 20 times a game this year. Maybe 15 at the most, these carries are going to be split among the 4.

Re: 2014 Projected Depth Chart

I'd put my money on Kaiwan starting over TJ.
