Gamecocks No. 1 on fall academic honor roll

Nice job guys and gals.
Makes me a proud alum to see them doing work on the field and in the classroom.

I will say this with perspective.

Does this mean we are better than Vanderbilt academically? No.
But what this does tell me is that our coaches, support staff, and more importantly, our players go to class, go to study hall and take advantage of all the help offered to them, and work hard.

Because these guys, especially the football players, never quit going to school. I believe they take 2-3 classes during the season, 4 in the spring semester and are in maymester, Summer I and Summer II, while doing winter condition, spring practice and summer workouts.

that is fantastic and worthy of use in recruiting. Carolina may not be the best school (vandy), but our athletes certainly take advantage of the opportunities which are presented to them.

Having class throughout the year is a good idea. Idle hands and all...

Our athletes are amazing but this is the norm under our current athletic administration. Is it coincidence that we have led the SEC in this measure for 8 years and Spurrier has been here 9?

Great work by everyone in the athletic department. Eight straight falls leading the SEC in this category is pretty impressive. Really happy for everyone within the athletic department to see this paying off. Even though this run was started before the Dodie was concluded, looks like it's really paying off for everyone.

We also have one more sport than the other teams because we offer men's soccer! It helps inflate our numbers

This is interesting to me because Spurrier said that the team's gpa dipped compared to previous years.

Congrats but this is not a surprise at all. We have been #1 or #2 for YEARS in the All Academic Honor roll in the SEC. For those that criticize Gamecocks athletes in the classroom, they are completely and totally ignorant.

If you check the numbers on this, Gamecock athletes, especially the football players, are vastly superior to our counterparts in the upstate. People like to argue grad rates but they don't see the full picture. How do the students compare in the classroom when they are actually in school.

I wrote this over 15 months ago about USC vs Clemson regarding sports and academics.

Aren't we the only SEC school with men's soccer? We should finish first in the Fall, we have a whole team more than the other schools to earn honor roll. Nice job none the less.

not true...we are the only SEC school (I believe) that doesn't have a men's cross country team so the # of teams is the same

Anyone notice that it is almost the entire starting lineup??

Re: Gamecocks No. 1 on fall academic honor roll

I might be wrong but I heard there was a team policy if you miss a class you don't practice & you don't play. If true that certainly would get the attention of players and make them go to class. Are some still sleeping in class like college students do? yes. Did some have someone on their right and left taking notes for them (cough cough connor shaw) yes. but they're going to class.

It is nice to have sudent athletes in the classroom rather than five points.

This only lists the raw # of kids from the schools who were selected as Academic All Americans. It's not a measure at all of average GPA. I could definitely make some negative inferences about that, but I'd rather just say congratulations to the kids selected and the staff that helped them achieve this distinction.
