I just don't get how we win 2 NCs and then finish 2nd and have had the top recruiting classes but still not ranked in the top 3.

Because the first two have nothing at all to do with what happens on the field today.

All we can ask is to stay consistently in the top 8-10 all season long, and we'll be fine when that time comes.

Good to see we actually moved up. We should've, we dominated the team we were supposed to beat.

If they continue to play as well as the did this past weekend, the polls will take care of themselves. I think we may have found our second starter for the regional and super regionals.

Looking at the teams who lost 1 game to teams they were supposed to crush shows how fickle baseball really is.

Re: Season Rankings Thread...

If our guys stay healthy and gain the experience they should, I wouldn't be afraid to play any of the teams ahead of us at the end of the season. I just hope this team develops the attifude that the 2010, 2011, and 2012 teams had that they could play with and beat anyone in the country.

All I care about is Top 8.
As long as we finish 8 or higher, we get to host a regional (barring a win in the regionals) a super regional.

Re: Season Rankings Thread...

There were a lot of ??? issues with the baseball team last year. Things
that just didn't make you feel like you were watching GAMECOCK BASEBALL.
Most of them were hard to define. Didn't have the "energy" from the previous
seasons when we were clicking on all 8 cylinders. That combined with the
poor execution of the basics (poor decisions on the base paths, really
ugly errors at crucial moments in games, and cold streaks at the plate
with runners in scoring position........) made for some frustrating games
at times. The final series against UNC to advance to the CWS was a image of the
entire season IMO. .... So close to being a solid team, but just couldn't
find that final "IT" thing to get it to come together.

Rankings aren't really the important thing right now (this early in the
season). As long as we're "in sight" (top 15-20) I just don't worry about
where we are in the polls. What I am concerned about is seeing us improve
on what we lacked last year, and improving as a unit. This past weekend
really left me feeling good about the direction of the program under
coach Holbrook. Last year you started to wonder if we would continue to
stay in the public eye the next few years with Holbrook taking over for
A Legend like Coach Tanner. Was there going to be a definite drop off ?
This past weekend proved to me that Coach Holbrook addressed some of
the major issues from last season, this winter. Our team for the entire
weekend didn't chase junk pitches at the plate the way we have the past
few years. Much better eyes and discipline in the batters box for the entire
battery in all three games ...... Impressive !, there were no major mind
lapses causing our team to have errors on routine plays that we saw almost
the entire first quarter of the season last year. AND, there were no
"DUH !" moments on the basepaths that cost us outs or scoring chances
like we saw the entire season last year.

If we can continue to build on those things, and mature as a team going
forward, I think this could well end up as one of our strongest teams in
the past decade or more. Yes, even more solid overall than the teams
that won the National Title. .... What I haven't seen yet, and the thing
that we missed most last year is a leader or two in the dugout to replace
guys like Michael Roth, and Scott Wingo. We need that guy to step up
and become the visual Leader of the team. The guy making jokes and getting
the players laughing when it's called for, or the guy chewing out some
player's butts when it's called for. ... We need to find that Rally point
as well. The sprit stick, Reptar, ... Something that brings it all together.

I'm not so worried about where we rank right now, as I am seeing
improvements on what we started doing this weekend. Rankings will come
as they are deserved. Winning will take care of that, but staying
focused and slow steady improvement mean more than rankings. With
this team, if we continue to improve we could see the ONE HELL OF A
TEAM by playoff time !!

Because if the past mattered in the current polls, we would be clemmons.

I think we have to move up this week. UVA and FSU both lost 1 game so BA will have to decide if it's enough to move us up to #2 or #1.

Us and Tennessee are the only undefeated teams left in the country that I'm aware of.

Virginia now has two losses. No way they hold on to number 1.

FSU lost to #19 Miami so they should remain where they are. I think our sweep of a top ten team is more than enough to secure the #1 spot. The great thing about being #1 is that it is as far from #8 as you can get so we increase our odds about being one of the top 8 teams.
