stay at rb jamari smith

I watched some games last night on dvr and noticed how good jamari smith looked running the ball. He was under recruited as far as being one of the better rbs. With all the new corners I really hope we keep him at rb. Todd and Tommy kept sayin how spurrier said that he is an offensive player.

Is this a plea, or a request, or what?

Re: stay at rb jamari smith

I think he should stay at CB this year. He has a chance to start. He was in the 2 deep as a true freshmen last year before he was moved to RB.

We need more help at CB than RB. Rico is the only CB who has even a few snaps. No one knows what Groves can do and yea we signed Lammons, Green and DJ but have to believe Jamari has a leg up on those guys.

It seems like they can try him in the spring at CB and if he's not looking to be a starter going into fall camp over there, they have plenty of time to get him back on offense and back into the groove. He won't get many carries next season in any case. We have really good football coaches now.

He was a pretty high 3 star running back with offers from Auburn, Notre Dame, Penn State, Arky, Ole Miss, West Virginia and others. I know several high school coaches who thought he would be a real player for us at some position.

He's moving to CB this year. In fact, he was the one who brought it to the coaches.

Real nice looking athlete...I think could end up playing both at USC throughout the rest of his career...next year cb is his best bet...but depending on the rb situation in 2 years his best opportunity might be moving back to offense

He looked great against Coastal, but come on, it was Coastal, not Alabama.

Just my personal opinion. I mean rainey move to lb and p cooper move to db obviously didnt work out. Culliver back in the day was a decent move. Just seems like he is a really good rb that didnt dissapoint playing sparingly as a true freshman. I hope we dont have to rely on a rb to play db when we have rico, ali g., and 4 or 5 dbs we just signed with the expectation to get on the feild this year. The incoming freshman probably have a better idea of the position playing it for several years in hs than a rb who may have played a couple snaps of live football in 1 year in college

Rico is made of glass. We need big time help at CB and Jamari is that dynamic athlete that can do it.

I'm OK with him playing a few snaps at RB too during the game.

Really guy? Rico tore his ACL in 2012 and hasn't played much since.

Yes really. And in 2013 he got hurt again. Sorry if the truth hurts.

Coastal's backups. As soon as they realized they won their league, they sat everyone.

Rico recovered from his injury last year and was in the 2 deep at CB for the last 4-5 games. He is set to be our #1 CB.

Re: stay at rb jamari smith

First, he requested to be moved to corner.
Second, he did what he did against Coastal Carolina...granted, the Chants were a good team last year, but let's not kid ourselves..we don't know how good Jamari is against top SEC competition.

Plus, it would be a wasted year at RB with Davis, Wilds, Carson and Williams already vying for touches.

Move Smith to corner and he has a chance to start, if not be a nickle or dime guy and see some significant playing time (It ain't a given Wes Green, Chris Lammons or DJ Smith will inherit a starting spot..they have to earn it over Rico, Ali and Jamari)

Can he PUNT?

There are too many running backs ahead of him on the depth chart. Best move is to take a shot at cornerback. He could start and possibly write himself an NFL ticket if he is good.

It was coastal....but still:

Smith: 10 carries,103 yds, 10.3 avg
Wilds: 7 carries, 62 yds, 8.9 avg
Carson:11 carries, 38 yards, 3.5 avg

In his only real playing time, he performed better than any other RB that played (everyone besides Davis)....even having not played there for what I think was basically all season. IMO Jamari is legit and should stay at running back - he'll be our starter in a couple years. Smith and Williams will have that Davis-Wilds type of punch.

It was Coastal's backups against our third team players. I doubt those stats have much meaning. It was a good performance out there, particularly the one big run he made.
