The Americans (FX TV Series)

Surprised that we didn't have a thread on this for season 1.

Season 2 kicks off tonight. This was arguably the best new show on TV last year.

The early returns from the critics on the 1st 5 episodes are very good.

Sounds like the writers have tightened the show up by trimming away what was not working and really focusing on what is working.

Looking forward to another great season.

I'm looking forward to it, didn't watch it last year, but caught up last week, season 1 is streaming on Amazon Prime

Well damn, that started with a bang.

I thought that when Phillip and Elizabeth were taking the drop to the hotel room that it might have been a set up. I thought that there might have some Afghans waiting for them.

Quailty start to the season. What did everyone else think?

I loved it!
I read that this season they are faced with the dilemma of protecting their family vs. serving their country. And yes, it's evident that is where we are headed.

I kinda figured that is where the show would eventually go with Philip and Elizabeth possibly defecting to the US side.

Should be a fun watch.

i loved the first season, this may have been the best episode with the action and the dynamic of the children being involved and having that too real example of what could happen to their family if things go wrong.

So did the Rezidentura want Nina to tell Stan about the walk-in? She did not mention it in her report.

I'm confused as to which side she is really playing right now.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

I guess last night answers that question. The KGB wanted Stan to have the lead so he would feel indebted to Nina.

I am enjoying it so far. I just feel bad for Philip that he is having to pretend to be in love with that fugley secretary.

Woof. Martha is gross.

Not to be too graphic here, but - how is he even getting it up when it's time to perform?

On an unrelated note - I'm glad that Elizabeth did not give Jared the note from his mother. It would have been too much for the kid to handle.

While yes, it would have been too much for him to handle, that isn't why she didn't give it to him. That was an example of her loyalty to her country overriding her mother's instinct. Adding to the tug-of-war that she (and Phillip) will face this season.

I agree. No telling what happens if she gives him that note and the kid starts asking questions or telling people.

It was nice to see her motherly instincts kick in with the guy at the warehouse, and not kill him. I think I would have stopped watching if she'd killed a truly innocent person whose only "crime" was being an American.

Really good episode last night.

Lost of different storylines unfolding...

Martha maybe blowing Philip's cover by applying for the gov't job.

Oleg digging into Nina's background.

Elizabeth trying to track down their friends killer.

The big cliffhanger of Philip and Elizabeth losing their target (Anton) to another team of spies or maybe security.

My wife said that the rape stroy that Elizabeth tld the young navy officer was taken from her real life when she was raped during her training back in Russia. Didn't know if anyone else thought that as well. I had forgot about Elizabeth's sexual assault.

Bumping this thread since no one has posted in a while.

Last night's episode featured outstanding work from Matthew Rhys. When he sends in his episode to be considered for an Emmy, it should definitely be last night's episode.

Anyone else still keepng up on the show? Thoughts?
