Not a great day for Gamecock greats

Hate to say it, but I saw this coming months ago.

I would love to see Sidney in Charlotte playing for the Panthers. If they part ways with Steve Smith then Sidney would be a perfect replacement IMO.

Sid is ok, but he can't replace Steve Smith.

I agree. Steve Smith is a small guy but he plays with a chip on his shoulder that makes him seem 7 feet tall

That and he has played through the pain a lot. SR is no #1 WR in the NFL. He should get one somewhere but his best days were with a gun slinger in Favre who wasn't afraid to throw it up for SR to get it. Cam isn't that guy. SR would be great in Detroit or Dallas.

Has Sidney played a full season since his wonder year with Favre? It's hard to keep making big money when you're never on the field.

I'm kind of surprised about Brinkley since Arizona really shelled out some money to bring him in that they'd move on that fast.

Sidney can't stay healthy...plus he was due $7.3 million this season. Hate to say it, but he's not worth that kind of money.

Re: Jasper and Sidney cut

Combine Rice's contract numbers with the 2014 wide receiver class and it doesn't look good for the man

Re: Jasper and Sidney cut

Rice is good, but to be paid $7+ million a year is hard to justify when there are a lot of young guys who would take less than half of that. At least he's made enough to not work the rest of his life, but he has to be smart about it.

Re: Jasper and Sidney cut

Rice will come at a great price so the Panthers should pick him up regardless of what they do with Smith. Almost any player coming off of a season ending injury won't get to sign a long term deal with a ton of guaranteed money. Jeremy Maclin is a perfect example, the Eagles resign him at 1 year 5.5 million and no one will argue that is a huge bargain. I think the Panthers could do about the same with Rice and then either retain Smith or draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round and be set.

Nobody will pay Sidney if he can not stay healthy for more than two games.

Re: Jasper and Sidney cut

I understand our fans want to see Sidney play for the home team, if you conciser Charlotte our home but there are other players out there and Panthers GM isn't looking for where a player is from, he's looking for where he can go.

Not so fast.

Hakeem Nicks is from Charlotte and is being looked at.

Dizzy01 03-01-2014 04:50 PM

Re: Jasper and Sidney cut

If they sign Nicks and Rice they still might need someone else for the other 8 games of the season.

Shocked Seattle gave him that money.
One of the few blunders that franchise has made in recent time.

They have both been pretty terrible in the last few seasons tbh

Jasper spent a number of games on IR last year. I doubt if her got back to full strength, because he didn't get much PT.

Rice...missed 31 out of 112 games in his career.

7 years....513 yards per year....averages 12 games per year...averages 4.3 TDs per season.
