I wear a mistletoe bow tie belt buckle every December.

I think you could pull that off. I haven't worn one since I was preschool so I don't remember if it was more or less comfortable than a tie. Maybe photoshop yourself with a tie and a bowtie to see which look you like best.

naw...nothing as racist as that...just a group from multigenerational and multiethnic backgrounds getting together in an outdoor environment with music and drinks and dancing and photography and networking.

It sounded like something that is different so I said I would go.

Seersucker and bow tie always work in the spring. If you're looking to make a statement, here's an idea...

I like bowties more than regular ties. Seem more comfortable and easier to deal with. I don't have to worry about a stiff breeze or dipping the end in something.

Re: Quick Question: Springtime Social

Only people that should wear bow ties are college students, professors, and physicians. If you fall into this category then wear it.

(The rule above does not apply black tie bc one should always go bow tie with black tie.)

To me, a social event where one can loosen up is where you can wear bowties and other things you wouldn't wear in a work environment.

Seems like the people who are saying you shouldn't wear it are the ones who have never worn 'em.

I figure if it's a place where there's a good chance of guys wearing brightly colored attire (colorful dress shirts for example) then a bow tie wouldn't be out of place. If it's not a work function then I say go for it...you're in NC, not NJ.

I saw wear the bow tie. To me, it exudes confidence. I've seen plenty of men in bow ties and they always stand out and look very nice!

For a casual event (especially one involving networking), I say go for it! Why not? At the very least it sets you apart from the crowd and is a conversation starter. Just be sure to wear it confidently or it will become awkward.
