A DE from Kansas who favors us with offers from Bama, Florida and Auburn to name a few.

Clowney effect.

He's from SC, he just goes to JUCO in Kansas. He played for Greenwood HS. You know same school DJ Swearinger and Kelcy Quarles went? So, probably Kelcy Quarles effect.

Seems kinda odd that we would offer a JUCO DE. Definitely a position that really isn't in dire need of immediate help. JUCO OT, now that's a different story.

My son played AAU basketball with him. Excellent athlete, who really didn't start playing football until hs. Think Sam Montgomery without the baggage. Well mannered and quiet kid who is just learning how to play football. Was a Gamecock fan before juco.

I guess if you get a bunch of top JUCOs that are ready to play right away you can skip the the development process, and when they leave you just get more JUCOs.

Also if you want to take a large class of DEs it staggers it so that they all don't leave the same year. Plus if the coaches view someone with elite talent I'm pretty sure they don't care what year he is because you can never have enough elite talent. Case and point Cam Newton and Nick Fairly leading Auburn to the National Championship.

It's kind of like a recruiting war, within the recruiting war as to who are the tops schools for JUCOs to go. If we get a reputation for taking a lot of JUCOs and they have success, these JUCOs may see us as their "golden ticket" before we even offer them.

I think some of it has to do with Deke being able to coach Sylvester Williams into a first round pick while he was at UNC. It's only one draft pick, but I think the fact that Williams was a JUCO guy goes a long way in getting the attention of those guys. I seem to remember that being one of the reasons Lamin came here.

I'm sure Dabo explained to whoever doesn't like the JUCOs that if we get these guys and they don't they have no chance.

At this point, we don't know for sure who is going to qualify.....he's a great player.

Re: 2015 - Marquavius Lewis (JUCO DE)

Having a few JUCO's each year can be a very good thing, but you can't form the nucleus of your team around JUCO players. Plus, if a player has been in JUCO for 2 years, you may only get him for 1 year which can be very disruptive.

Of course Clemtech offers him 3 days later.

You have to read his entire 247 page. Look carefully at the bottom. The Junior College he goes to is in Kansas. His HS is Greenwood SC. For JUCOs they list the location of recruit as the location of Junior College they are attending. That is not their HOME though. They are just playing ball and going to class there. Doobie Thomas is from GA not TX Byron Jerideau is from SC not KS. I don't understand why people get so confused about this.

It just depends how good they are. JONES and LEWIS seem to be dominating JUCO scene. We aren't really going after ANY old JUCOs. We are going after the best of the best. Same could be said about guys like Thomas, Lamin, and Hill. And it seems to be just on DL where the learning curve is low.
