Question about throwing a basketball at another player

I know it's perfectly legal for a player to throw the bball off of another player to save possession, but what if the player throws it off of the opposing players head? Wouldn't that be cause for a technical? When they could have easily thrown it off the body.

Source of the question was from the 2a girls state title game thomas sumter vs Richard Winn. RW inbounded it and quickly got trapped. The TSA girl had fallen to her knees and the RW player threw the ball off her head to save possession. She could've easily thrown it off her back or leg. Do I just have a case of sour grapes seeing as my girlfriends little sister plays for TSA? Lol

Not sure if it would be a tech, but it isn't something most people do. Usually people aim for the legs when they throw it off somebody.

That's exactly why I was upset lol. It was a dirty play and the player should have atleast been reprimanded somehow. There were a lot of questionable calls/no calls in that game. I guess im just a Disappointed general here lol.

I was at a game a few weeks ago where a player threw the ball at the ref after a bad call and didn't get anything. I have seen kids look at the ref and get a tech, just depends on the ref sometimes.

In LAX, if they utter anything to us, they get a USC and put in the penalty area non-releasable

I always figured people throw it at the legs so it would be harder to attempt to catch it.

It's kind of an unwritten rule not to throw it at someone's head while attempting to do this.

I always threw it at dude's legs, in that situation, but I seriously doubt it would be a technical if you threw it at the head. It's the defender's fault if he can't catch that.

Now, if two players have been talking smack at each other all game, and one brings the ball upcourt and throws it at defender's head, well .... And I've seen a couple fights start that way in pickup games, btw, lol.

It's not a tech if it's to save possession (e.g., throwing it as you fall out of bounds). It's always a tech if it has nothing to do with the play and is intended.
