Led Zeppelin re-releases

The first three Led Zeppelin albums are about to be released as Deluxe Editions with new material and live recordings. Cool

Quote:

On June 3, the first three Led Zeppelin albums will be reissued in deluxe remastered editions: 1969's Led Zeppelin and Led Zeppelin II and 1970's Led Zeppelin III. Guitarist Jimmy Page handled the remastering. The reissues will be available in a range of digital, CD, vinyl, and deluxe box sets through Atlantic/Swan Song, accompanied by previously unreleased bonus tracks including rough mixes, backing tracks, alternative versions, and new songs.
This marks the beginning of a Led Zeppelin reissues campaign that will see the rerelease of all nine of the band's studio albums, each remastered by Page with era-appropriate bonus tracks.

The Super Deluxe Boxed Set for each album will feature both discs on CD and vinyl, a download card of all audio, a 70+ page hardcover book with rare and unseen photos, and a print of the original LP cover. The Led Zeppelin box set will also include a reproduction of their first press kit. Read the full details here.

The bonus material for Led Zeppelin includes an unreleased live set recorded in Paris on October 10, 1969. Led Zeppelin II features alternate mixes, backing tracks, and a previously unreleased song called "La La". And Led Zeppelin III is accompanied by studio outtakes and three unheard tracks: the instrumentals "Jennings Farm Blues" and "Bathroom Sound", plus their cover of blues classic "Keys to the Highway/Trouble in Mind".

Thats's good news! I love me some Zep. They set a standard that will never be approached.

these are all great. however, in my humble yet rockin opinion- NO music collection is complete and EVERY person younger than 30 who considers themselves to be rockers has to have LZ IV in their archives

this is the first of the re releases. there are 9 albums. the plan is to re release 3 albums at a time each time.

so hopefully many buy this one so we get to IV

LZI - Houses of the Holy is probably the strongest 5-album run from a band/artist I can think of. Physical Graffiti is great, too.

First thought that came to mind was the Beatles: Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour, White Album (after which would also come Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road and Let it Be).

Regardless, when you're stacking anything up against (or surpassing) the Beatles, you've done something pretty fantastic.

Pink Floyd had an impressive 4-album run with Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall.
I'm also a fan of ELO's 5 album run from A New World Record through Time.
Another great 7-album run would be the Rolling Stones from Aftermath through Exile on Main Street (though Their Satanic Majesties Request is pretty weak in the middle there).

I actually prefer those 6 Zep albums to any of these other ones, but your comment just got me thinking about it and I wanted to throw out some other good runs. Maybe there's an idea for another of Spurticus's bracket tournaments in there....

Have Zep 1 and Hoses of the Holy of the Holy on Vinyl.

No Quarter on Hoses of Holy may be my favorite Zep tune. That has one of the best baselines.

I agree with Beatles, although I could quibble with Magical Mystery Tour (still good). Floyd, too, but to a lesser extent. Bowie had a couple nice runs, but there were a few weaker albums in there. Sabbath was pretty consistent. Steely Dan, too. Personally, I think Alice Cooper's first 4 albums on Warner Bros. were all fantastic. Throw in the one before that (on Zappa's label), and there's 5.

I can think of a few other good runs (Police, Metallica, XTC), but I still think Beatles and Zeppelin are at the top of the mountain.

Can't wait for Physical Graffiti to get this treatment. By far my favorite Zeppelin album

Re: Led Zeppelin re-releases

Finally get to retire my vinyls, three at a time.

I've always been old school. Never bought an LZ 8-track, cassette or CD. Just didn't feel right.

Definitely looking forward to June 3.

Re: Led Zeppelin re-releases

I don't think there is a bad album in their whole catalog.

Some people might dislike Presence and In Through The Out Door, but I think they are pretty damn good.
