Bucket List: CHECK! (hang gliding)

Sooo, today's Adventures in Yanceyland saw a long time bucket list item checked off. Gliding was my dad's favorite form of flying. 30 years ago I took a glider strapped beneath my hot air balloon gondola up to 10K' and cut him loose. I have never managed to work in doling it myself though. Until today that is. This was just a 3K' flight with light thermals but I got to display my ownership of the bowl Twinkies from https://www.facebook.com/groups/orderofthespur/ as well as dolng a 5 bomb of tater nation from on high!

Pretty much.

That line holding y'all didn't look all that strong, but since you posted about it afterwards I'm guessing it did in fact do its job

I've done this a couple of times myself and it is awesome. There is something about no sound other than wind that really made it weird for me. I also though it was kind of unnerving to be literally 'hanging' from the wing itself...Very cool...congrats!

If you mean the tow line that was dragging us to altitude it was cut at the 6:50 mark and we then sailed back to earth. The only time I could get was an early morning spot. That severely limited thermal formation and shortened the flight time. I would like to do it again and shoot for around a 2:00 launch. That area of the Florida ridge gets a clash between the Atlantic and Gulf sea breezes. You can keep riding that updraft for hours if you catch it right.

I don't know enough about the thermals to comment on that but I did a 2500-3000 ft. flight and then a mile high one...over 5000 for those keeping track...and the additional flight time was the best part by far. It really was night and day.
