I've seen a good many of those in person. 6 to be precise.

They're all impressive on their own. Interesting how some become more, or less, impressive at a distance. Perspective is everything.

Unbelievable pictures.

I always thought the Pyramids were in the middle of absolute nowhere.

I'm betting, without looking that the Alamo is on that.

Dumpy ass location.

****** Edit, it wasn't, my comment still stands **********

The Alamo is where it has always been. The touristy stuff just grew around it (bad zoning restrictions). I think downtown San Antonio is wonderful, not dumpy at all.

Same thing probably happened with the Great Pyramids. Not sure about the rest though.

Some of those surprised me. Count me in the group that thought the pyramids were in the middle of nowhere. For some reason, I always had it in my mind that the Taj Mahal was surrounded by dense jungle. Don't know why I always pictured that?

You can see all this through google earth. (Or by visiting in person). No news here that most historical landmarks like these are surrounded by large cities.

That overhead of Central Park is unreal.

No it is not news, but to be given perspective in picture form is pretty neat.

Right. I'm not so down on downtown San Antonio (parts of it are great), but all the cheap-ass tourist shops that surround the Alamo. It's impossible to get any sense of history standing there while people are trying to sell you $5 BluBlockers.
