How much shotgun was used this past week?

Been away since NSD and haven't been able to read all the reports yet.

Heard there were a lot of bad snaps on the Shotgun sets, hope I am wrong.

There where several bad snaps this past Saturday. :football:

A few QB fumbles too!

The shotgun was used almost exclusively except for in the red zone.

It seemed like last spring game we ran a ton of pistol, but didn't see it nearly as much during the regular season. With each passing season, I become less and less convinced by anything that goes on in spring ball.

I wouldn't mind seeing it more between the 20s.

With our FB's S&C numbers and the returning OL experience, it might be a realistic option for us. I like the unbalanced aspect as a twist to that offense.

I really wish we would do more power sets anywhere on the field. Nothing gets you're offensive line pumped like smashing the rock down their opponents throat. Not to mention it's incredibly demoralizing to for a defense. Impose your will on them run run run, then when they stack the box toss in a play action fake to one of the TE's to keep em honest!! Of course this is comming from a guy who played full back in a flex bone offense, you could say I prefer the 3 yards and a cloud of dust style.

Without getting into a lot of details, I can tell you they are not running out
of the Shotgun formation nearly as much in the couple of practices I've seen
so far compared to what they did in the Spring and fall of the last few years.
It also appears from the couple of practices I've seen and what I read in the
scrimmage reports from Saturday, that the team is working on the
No Huddle / Hurry up offense more so than in years past. I don't think it's
going to be the staple of offense, but I looks like Spurrier / Mangus are going
to use it more this season vs prior seasons.

AND
As has been the case with most people's discussion of the Shotgun so far:
In the couple of practices I've seen there have been numerous mishandled
snaps when we do use the Shotgun. The thing about it is - Dylan Thompson
is the only one of the QBs that has yet to get / have a botched up snap from
the shotgun formation. It's been from the other three QBs behind him.
Possible explanation for this could be that the other 3 QBs are working with
the second/third unit center, and our first unit guy (Waldrop mostly) is doing
a good job of getting the ball back to him.

Funny Side Note:
In one of the reps from the 11-on-11 drills Friday, Connor Mitch got in the
shotgun with David Smith as the Back, beside him. The snap from center was
so awful, that it came out at a VERY badly off line snap, and went over Smith's
head !?!? .. it was so bad that I mentioned to the guy standing next to me,
that it might have been a designated play that was supposed to be snapped
to Williams, but it just went too high. .... The guy beside me said "You might think
that to give the center the benefit of the doubt, but the look on Connor's face
tells me it wasn't supposed to go there
" !!

I was just curious if Coach Spurrier had the QBs undercenter in one back formations.

Thanks! Kind of figured that would be the case with the QBs and overall personnel on offense that we have now.

But wouldn't the 2nd unit center be the guy that started for us most of last season?

How can you be a scholarship center on a Div 1 SEC team and not be able to snap the ball appropriately?

In practice no less? I understand as a center you have to recognize protection assignment but your first responsibility is the snap. I just don't get it.....

I think a lot of these guys, especially the young ones, have a lot of things going on in their head pre-snap so less of the brain is focused on actually snapping the ball. These guys have to analyze the defense, call out signals, etc., but eventually it'll come second nature.

yep

And all you have to do is think back to last season you'd recall the number of
low and high snaps, few that went over Connor's head etc...
There were A LOT of snaps that weren't "crisp" or on target. That will mess
up the timing of a play from the get go. Especially those plays designed to
be run very quickly like WR screens, or short slants etc...

We've had issues with the Shotgun snap for a while now.
