I'm clueless about this kind of stuff, so please help me out.

What could a problem potentially be if the front wheels of a vehicle see to be leaning inward a little? The vehicle in question is a '98 Ram. It's drivable, but I can definitely see a lean to the front wheels.

could be anything from needing alignment to needing front end parts such as ball joints and bushings. or it could be collision damage such as bent frame. if you take it to a decent alignment shop, they should be able to tell you what you need and what it will cost.

upper control arm bushings shot or bad upper ball joints more than likely if it is noticeably visible. doubtful that is an alignment issue making it that pronounced

sounds like alignment. If it is something more major take it in for alignment & they will certainly let you know.

Might be ball joints

Thanks guys. I was wondering if taking it to be aligned would let me find out if there are other problems in the front end, so it's good to know that should work. I'm going to hold out hope that simply getting the front end aligned will take care of the problem.

do you have clunking noise when going over bumps? or wobbly steering?

sounds like the problem is, you bought a dodge truck.

all kidding aside, not sure how much the repairs noted above might cost. another option may be to check govt surplus. I posted a link to a site below, it auctions off anything that is govt surplus. you can find a lot of trucks from nearby municipalities for less than $1,000. they'll let you go by and look at them too if you want before you bid.

Not that I've noticed, but the sound of the engine is relatively loud, so it's possible I may have missed some noises. The steering is definitely off, but not really wobbly. When driving straight, the steering wheel is turned a fair amount to the left.

I've been thinking about your question, and I wonder if I misinterpreted what you meant by wobbly steering.

The steering wheel doesn't shake back and forth (I've had vehicles to do this before), and I thought that's what you meant. But there is a good bit of "play" in the steering. I said to my wife, "It's like the steering needs to be 'tightened'." Is this what you meant?

Dodge trucks are notorious for front end problems. And expensive repairs. I've had two of them and my son has one and they wear out ball joints and tie-rod ends on a regular basis. I guess its because they are so heavy in the front. At least thats what I was told at one of the shops. I have a Toyota now and so far have had no front end issues.
