Re: 2015 - Amonte Caban
Could be another sleeper (a la Jon Walton) coming out of Alabama.
Hey, Bama and Auburn can't get everybody in their state.

Re: 2015 - Amonte Caban

Clemson linebackers coach and defensive coordinator Brent Venables joined the race for LB Amonte Caban of Smith’s Station, AL on Monday. Venables made the call to Caban and near the end of a 15 minute conversation surprised Caban with a Tiger offer.
“He said he liked the way I play the game,” Caban said. “He said I have good instincts and I’m good in space and I will fit well with the team. He said he liked my explosiveness and my violent nature.”
Caban was excited to get the Clemson offer. “The offer means a lot,” he said. “It’s a great program up there. I didn’t know I was going to get the offer because I haven’t talked to them much. It really meant a lot to me.”
USC linebackers coach Kirk Botkin offered Caban several weeks ago and the two talked again on Monday.
“He said he wants to coach me and said the same things coach Venables said,” Caban said. “I talk to him about every week.”
Botkin was by Caban’s school last week. Recruiters from Tennessee, Ole Miss, UAB, South Alabama and Southern Miss have also been by. Caban has visited USC, Mississippi State, UAB and Auburn. He was at USC for junior day in March.
“I liked it up there,” he said. “I really liked the weight room.” He plans to visit Clemson the first week in June and will make a return trip to USC this summer. He also plans to visit Mississippi State, Louisville and Kentucky.
Caban also has offers from Mississippi State, Kentucky, Cincinnati, UAB, South Alabama, Alabama State, Troy, Jacksonville State, Western Kentucky and Southern Miss. He wants to make his decision by the end of summer.
Last season Caban, who plays inside linebacker, registered 140 tackles and 3 sacks.

Re: 2015 - Amonte Caban

Clemson and USC have offered LB Amonte Caban (6-2 210) of Smiths Station, AL and he plans to visit each school this summer. Caban does not have any favorites but is showing strong interest in the two Palmetto State schools.
“I’ve never been to Clemson but I hear it’s a real nice place and that the people are really friendly,” Caban said. “My coach said he would take me up there for a visit in early-June. I went a to junior day at South Carolina and I liked it a lot. They have really nice facilities and a nice football stadium. I loved the campus and got to see the Horseshoe. What I really liked is the way they work together and how the coaches do things. I’ll visit again this summer.”
Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables has spoken with Caban about his program.
“He just told me how well he thinks I would fit in up there and about how they do things,” Caban said. “He told me he thinks I’m explosive and he likes how I get off the ball.”
From USC, it is Kirk Botkin leaving an impression on Caban. “I really like him a lot,” he said. “He is a high-character guy.”
Caban’s other offers include Mississippi State, Kentucky, Louisville, Southern Miss and Cincinnati with interest from Alabama, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Florida and Purdue.
As a junior he totaled 140 tackles, 70 solos, three sacks, 11 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

Hopefully his relationship with coach Botkin will be what it takes to get him here.

Re: 2015 - Amonte Caban

There are several schools LB Amonte Caban of Smiths Station, AL plans to visit this summer and two of them are Clemson and USC. Caban wants to narrow his list to five before summer’s end but wants to complete all of his summer trips prior to doing so. “I want to take all five of my official visits before I commit,” he said. “Hopefully, I can narrow it down to those schools before football starts up.”
Caban also will visit Alabama, Kentucky, Louisville and Mississippi State this summer. None of his trips have been scheduled but that should change quickly.
“Me and my coach are supposed to talk about that tomorrow, actually,” Caban said. “I think we’re trying to figure out when we can visit Clemson and South Carolina.”
Caban said that he does not have any favorites but does have interest in the two South Carolina schools.
“I like both of them a lot,” he said. “I’ve never visited Clemson and want to see it for myself because I’ve heard a lot of great things. I’ve been to South Carolina and really liked the campus.”
He does not have a time frame for announcing a decision.

Re: 2015 - Amonte Caban
"I talked to coach Botkin Tuesday," Caban said. "I'm going to South Carolina July 26th for a visit. I like South Carolina a lot, really. Their work ethic and the family environment stand out, and I like the coaches. I have a good relationship with coach Botkin."

Caban also has an offer from Clemson and talked with recruiter Brent Venables a couple of weeks ago. "He likes me and said I can play both inside and outside," Caban said. "He's making a hard push." But Caban said right now he likes USC more than Clemson.

Re: 2015 - Amonte Caban
He's not big, quick, or fast. Is there some mistique in being from Alabama?

Re: 2015 - Amonte Caban
Don't think so re: commitment .. Definitely think we get an OV though.

GCC has an update stating that he has a new leader and has decided on an announcement time frame.

Anyone care to paraphrase?
