Terry Googer - new Wildcat QB?

Reading the transcript from Spurrier's call in show last night, it appears like they are going to give Terry a shot at Wildcat QB this year. Makes sense to me now that Pharaoh is the starter at Z receiver. Needs to devote as much time as possible to that position.

I kind of like the idea of letting a young skill guy that probably won't be in the rotation their 1st season at their position get some chances in the Wildcat. At least it gives them a chance to make a play.

I agree with you C2. Get the ball in play makers hands. Terry already has good size and will get another month or two working out with the team before the season starts.

Once inbound players graduate from high school can they begin working out in the summer time with players already enrolled in school? I would guess it is a violation but am not certain.

Did he play any QB in high school? Can't remember

He was a high school QB. Spurrier said he was a pretty good passer but an excellent runner.

During the camp circuit last Summer, he worked at WR.

Looking at the depth chart..I was curious how they'd handle Ph.Cooper's snaps. Starter at WR and both KR and PR. Asking him to take 5 or so snaps at Wildcat might be too much.

I'm a little slow this afternoon. I got an initial shock after skimming past the headline, for a fraction of a second I was worried that he had transferred to Kentucky. *bops own head*

Not if he can help the team and it sounds like they have a role for him.

Not so sure about the Googs at WildCock.

Pharoh is still practicing that position this spring and you would think that if he's practicing he's still playing.

Watch for Shaq Davidson out of Gaffney to fulfill that role also. Excellent passer and runner

I like the idea of finding a new Wildcat guy.
PHaroh has enough on his plate learning the Z position, along with returning kicks and punts. Plus, guys can take a beating as the wildcat, and Googer is a much bigger, physical guy.

Exactly right.
If skill guys can play right away, and it gives you another weapon to possibly score with, use them if they are the best at the position.

Well I mean of course he is still going to practice there some during the Spring. We don't really have anybody else that fits the role right now and what happens if Googer got hurt? If not to keep him in the flow of the offense, practicing there this Spring at least gives the defense something to work on defending. If I recall correctly, Vandy and Kentucky went to town on our defense with the Wildcat last season.

Shaq Davidson probably has the longest way to go out of the 3 receivers that signed. His Shrine Bowl practices were ug-ly from what I was told.

Didn't he get injured his senior year? Guess this means his recovery is going well

Not an indication of what's coming this fall though.
In the 2011 Spring practices / Scrimmage and even in the Spring game,
Stephon Gilmore was our Wildcat QB and had run it in spots in both the
2009 and 2010 seasons. ..... Yet when the season started in the fall of
2011, Bruce Ellington was the player we used in the Wildcat Formation.
ALSO,
Bruce was the guy running the Wildcat in the Spring of last year (2013),
but when the season started, WHEN WE DID go to the Wildcat formation,
Pharoh was the player Spurrier put there.

So what Cooper is doing now during the Spring drills may not have anything
to do with who runs the W/Cat this fall. If Googer shows promise there
"behind closed doors" as Ellington and Cooper did, then Googer may well
be our W/C QB this fall

Cart before horse a little bit.

Wildcat is not a major component of the offense anyway.

Cooper can handle it, plus we know he's good at it.

And I like moving him around to keep the D playing catch-up.

Think Randall Cobb.
