Very nice column on Connor Shaw

From BJ Bennett

South Carolina's Connor Shaw was rarely mentioned. His resume, being his school's winningest quarterback ever, never losing a home game in three years as a starter and having the nation's best touchdown-to-interception ratio this past fall, should come with confetti and a glass case. Shaw wasn't a Heisman Trophy contender or an All-American candidate. He is, instead, one of the most underrated quarterbacks in college football history.

I had no idea that Shaw had numbers that good against ranked teams this year. 10 TD's, no INT's, and a passer rating of well above 170 in games against ranked competition.

Holy smokes.

They were talking about this article this morning on 107.5. I said I was going
to pull it up first chance I got and read it.

Thanx to the OP for the link !

Connor was a better version of Phil Petty. (another very under rated QB
for the Gamecocks). I'm still convinced had Phil had the talent around him
that Shaw had, we would have been an 11 win team at least one of his
two best seasons (2000 or 2001), and would have made a BCS Bowl
appearance. Doubt we would have won the East because Spurrier and the
Gators were still in control of it then. We would have beaten UT both those
seasons, Beaten Bama in 2000, and Clemson in 2000 (The pushoff would
not have saved their asses) and would have beaten Arkansas in 2001.

Connor Shaw WAS a very under rated QB for what he accomplished here
in his career and I'm still confused as to why he did not receive more
attention from the National Media because of his stats. I would not have
thought much about it if we had won 7-8-9 games those years, but for
a QB to have been the team leader for three consecutive 11 win teams, and
not have had more focus on him is ridiculous. ... however, knowing the kind
of player and person Connor Shaw is, I have a feeling he was OK with it.
I also think it was motivation for him every week to go out there and keep
winning. I TRUELY Hope this young man gets on an NFL roster. He
will make any team better just by his work ethic and I think he will eventually
get a starting job in the future. He's that kind of player.

I will root for the team drafts him.

Shaw was a victim of the fact that general fans usually associate one player with a team, and we had Clowney.

Awesome article and just repeats what we all here already know. Shaw is an All Time Gamecock in my mind.

I think the SEC was just so super QB heavy, they canceled each other out.

I think Connor Shaw will have a long career in the NFL because I think he will be able to adapt to the kind of player he needs to be in the NFL.

By general fans you mean ESPN right! But I agree. I think Shaw was overshadowed first by Lattimore, then our D who has been beast for several years. We know how amazing he is, and I hope he knows also. We'll all be telling our kids stories about him one day when they want to know who's the best QB to ever play for South Carolina!
