New Offense

Spurrier has stated recently that he will be pushing for a more up-tempo offense.

He is no stranger to this approach, considering his Florida teams and here at USC are hardly up-tempo or fast-paced. He had an up-tempo offense at Duke http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/09/...s-started.html

I think we might see a little bit more of this approach in 2014 in an attempt to maximize on team speed and depth.

Its just to give himself and Coach Mangus more time to audible, IMO.

I agree....quite a few times last year we rushed up to the line but still didn't snap the ball before less than 15 seconds (sometimes 10 or less) were on the play clock. I think I actually saw a few times we may have audibled twice.

I love how much gamesmanship Spurrier does though...like dropping the Brandon Wilds throwing plays int he interview the other day and immediately saying "don't put that in the papers." Teams know we have gotten to the line and called audibles before the snap. If teams think we might actually throw some true hurry up in there they will set and audible their defenses and we will know for sure what we are going up against.

We ran a good bit of quick huddle in 2010 too. Spurrier said that we didn't have to change our personnel too much because we had Dimarco out there and he was able to line up at FB in the I and TE/HB when we went to the shotgun.

Dylan Thompson excels in the hurry up, great move!

2010 was the Alshon/Lattimore show.

2014 boasts a bunch of quick/little receivers, 4 capable running backs and a QB that would excel in up-tempo.

Get ready for bubble screen after bubble screen...

I think everyone will be able to hurry up except..............the ole ball coach.

Re: New Offense

Just another wrinkle to our offense, just like the Wildcat for a few plays a game. Depending on how effective our "D" is might reflect how quickly we run our own plays.

Just something else for other teams to spend time on preparing.

Any more wrinkles though and our offense will look like a Shar-Pei.

Re: New Offense

With our depth on the DL and LB, I think we can run up tempo on Offense and not worry about our Defense wearing out.

Not a fan of running too much hurry-up. You have to keep your defense fresh.

Re: New Offense

We usually have enough problems getting the play off must less going up tempo. Remember calling 2 time outs to get a play off and still messed it up.

It's happened quite a few times over the years. Because Spurrier didn't like the defense he saw, tried to change the play, had to call TO, called a different play, defense gave a completely different look, Spurrier still didn't like it, tried to play change the play again, still took too long, had to call TO again.

The Fun N Gun will never work in the SEC. Firstly, we don't have the receivers he had, and secondly, the SEC defenses are too talented nowadays. Our balance needs to be 40/60 pass/run to be
effective.

Thats a pretty dumb assessment no offense. Plenty of offenses can fun and gun it in the SEC.
